- Sherpa54010918 contributionsWe didn’t stay in San Juan however I wish we had stayed there. The Old town of San Juan was great! We walked the perimeter walk around the fort and it was very memorable. A must do!!
Then we continued into the Old Town and had lunch at Barrachina. The best paella we’ve eaten and it lays claim to creating the Original Pina Colada. You get to see the beautiful colored buildings as you walk through the town.Written March 15, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Some are restored beautifully but many are in need of repairs … buildings and cars. Don’t be shocked by the peeling paint, mould and rubble … it just adds to the character and resilience of the place. There are challenges in the city and finding western style food grocery shops is not easy … they look like little “hole in the wall” outlets, with limited stock and variety. It seemed like lots of fresh food is bought from carts … Shortages of items is common, especially away from the tourist streets. There are loads of places to eat, but prices vary … check menus before committing. Cocktails however are cheap by western standard … $2 US mojito, Cuba libra, etc! Cuba is raw and has signs of decades long sanctions, but the history and culture is undeniably strong. Lots of monuments worth checking and be prepared for museum closures. The electricity and funding shortages means some places may be unavailable. Money is also something to be mindful of … most places accept Cuban pesos and US Dollars … check exchange rate in restaurants before ordering. Bank rates are the lowest but restaurants often give good rates. Many will approach you in the street to change money … be wary of these. Seek help from your accommodation hosts they will be able to help with exchanging currency.Written February 25, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - b wCoral Springs, FL113 contributionsThis was so much fun. I do recommend watching the YouTube video of going thru The Baths and the beach. Do NOT wear flip flops. And it might be difficult to do if you are a large person or not in the best of shape.Written March 9, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jamie LBrockville, Canada293 contributionsThe swing bridge is cool, walked over to the bridge to see what was on the other side near the cruise terminal and walked back.
The bridge opened when a cruise ship was leaving. It is cool to see it open with what it looks like is an outboard motor. It moves quicklyWritten March 21, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Amazing stores to visit, and great history of the town and culture I was able to experienceWritten March 20, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MikeChicago, IL6 contributionsGreat experience. My college kids liked it. We went in and wandered around for 10 mins when the tour guide rounded the groups up, very informative, talked about butterfly lifecycle and showed various types in various stages. After the tour you could wander all you liked. Bright clothes attract them, I had a bright blue shirt on and a few landed on me. Bit expensive but a great thing to do when the sun is too high in the sky to be on the beach or pool. Students and seniors 65+ get a discount, bring student ID. After the tour we bought some ice cream treats in the front and sat outside in the shade relaxing. they have a number of tables, they also sell beer/etc.Written March 22, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Munah215 contributionsPut on your walking shoes because there is so much surface area to cover! Castillo San Felipe del Morro is breathtaking and the views are phenomenal. I spent roughly 2 hours here learning so much about Puerto Rico’s rich history.Written March 6, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Donald BKennesaw, GA296 contributionsThis is considered the largest fortress built in the Americas which Spain used for protection. It took about a century and a half to build. It was even used during World War II. It has an interesting history and is worth it. It is part of the U.S. National Park system so you can use your park pass.Written March 22, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Tanya BGreat Haywood, UK91 contributionsWe arrived in Nassau on our ship and took a walking tour. Our guide took us on an hour and a half walk around the city. We walked up the Queens Staircase which is carved out of solid limestone rock by 600 slaves between 1793 and 1794 to create an escape route from the fort above. When Queen Victoria ended slavery throughout the British Empire it was decided to dedicate the steps in her name. It’s a must when Visiting the island.Written March 15, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Doina C142 contributionsYes. It really has a different air from old Havana because I felt like I was in any other European city in Italy or Spain. The square is beautiful, clean with works of art on display. There is also the church of Saint Francisco de Asis where there was a rehearsal.Written February 17, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Doina C142 contributionsAlthough I expected it to be crowded, given its celebrity, I was amazed when I saw that it is very little frequented. I saw more of the old, emblematic cars of Cuba and the double-decker buses. You should know that even the double-decker buses were not crowded. Just a few tourists. And I'll tell you another secret: it's not worth taking such a bus. It is expensive (20 usd per person) and stops very rarely. If you know exactly what you want to visit, it is better to take a taxi to take you from one place to another and it will be much cheaper.Written February 17, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Noelle GSan Jose, CA107 contributionsIncredible mosaic and ceramic arts extravaganza. It reminds me of Watts Towers in that this artist used materials he had to create an outstanding living work of art in this neighborhood. We went as part of an organized tour, where lunch was included! Food was fresh and delicious. They greeted us with cola with lime and a shot of rum was offered.Written March 21, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jamie LBrockville, Canada293 contributionsWe toured Willemstad on our own and felt very safe. The buildings and murals were cool to see. - jgemzaWhitesboro, NY451 contributionsToured the house and grounds of this old and updated landmark. It has a long history of families and questionable accidents or killings on the property. The update was remarkable over 60 years ago and worth a visit. Nevertheless, the building is in need of some maintenance and repair. A nice stop for us on our tour.Written January 30, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
