What travelers are saying
- April S2 contributionsI am so glad I came and did the hike here. It was unlike any other hike I have ever done before. The scenery throughout the whole journey is stunning and you really feel a part of the nature.Written January 21, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - nbarboBaltimore, MD6 contributionsIncredible hike! Definitely a tough one with lots of scare-factor for the dropoff and steep hike. You definitely want to be in shape, take proper water/food/supplies and make sure your balance is solid that day! The hike to "Decision Point" is challenging but worth it, even if you don't go to the peak of Angel's Landing. The final push to the peak with the chains can be pretty scary if you're afraid of heights but the end view is worth it!Written February 16, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - betty QCleveland, OH59 contributionsWe flew into salt lake and drove to Brian head thinking we would go skiing. No snow and beautiful weather we decided to drive to Zion. We hiked and had the best day looking at the picturesque scenery. We also did Bryce Canyon and it too was spectacularWritten March 10, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - gt6243cBaltimore, MD140 contributionsI visited in on a Thursday and Friday in early December and enjoyed being able to drive the route. The park as not very crowded, so it was easy to find parking at the stops along the way. I really enjoyed watching the sunrise light up the park.
There were several signs stating the drive would close if parking was full. On my second day, Rangers did have everyone stop along the route to discuss where people were headed.
If you are going to visit the park on multiple days or visit other parks during the year, highly recommend getting an América the Beautiful Pass.Written December 8, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It has some drop offs and steep areas but is overall moderate. It’s also fairly short to get to the breathtaking views of Zion Canyon.Written February 8, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - rlmptlLloydminster, Canada1,289 contributionsbreathtaking views all along and a must see for sure since we could not get anywhere near Zion scenic drive it was jsut too busy and this was at 10 am too. this was a good alternative and something well worth doing on our way north.Written October 31, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - DKPuckMuncie, IN1,164 contributionsThis is the less visited portion of Zion NP. You take a different road here. The scenic road to the top is beautiful and there a handful of hiking trails. The one mile round trip hike at the top is worth it!Written March 7, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Paul D23 contributionsWe have hiked this the hard way in the past [now inaccessible] and have also done the easier way that is now the only option. The view from the top always takes my breath away. Only the Grand Canyon south rim and parts of Yosemite compares to this view. We heard the parking lot at the trailhead filled up from early morning so nearly didn’t bother. We went on a Monday and arrived about 3pm - there was one car in the parking lot and we passed a couple of people on the way out but had the place to ourselves at the top and we were there half an hour. It is the best view in the park, possibly in the whole area, if you’ve never been you should take a look.Written August 11, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Mandy WPlainfield, IL114 contributionsMy husband and I spent 5 days hiking in Zion and I just have to say that the shuttle system into and throughout the park is a very well run system that we used daily and appreciated. The signage is clear, the buses are frequent and always on time - the way they have this organized made our trip easy to navigate. If you are spending a few days in Zion, definitely get familiar with the Zion Canyon shuttle and the Springdale shuttle (if applicable to you).Written November 13, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Icarus4335Colorado Springs, CO809 contributionsThis might be a little long, but I am hoping to help future visitors. I have a few suggestions for exploring the main canyon and a shorter (and less informative) version at the end.
FIRST, get there before 7 am, if possible. You will most likely use the shuttle to get around the canyon and the first shuttle leaves from the visitor center at 7 am. Be there early and get in line immediately We were on the second shuttle of the day, only waited maybe 10 minutes. The shuttles only have so much space and fill up quickly. As the day goes on, the lines to get on the shuttle will only get longer and longer. By the time we left (about 1pm) the line at the visitor center was easily a few THOUSAND people deep...wrapped around the pavilions, buildings, all the way to the end of the parking lot. Those people must have waited literally hours to get on. If you choose not to use the shuttles (or don't want to wait), then you can walk or bike, but the total distance from one end to the other is 7.7 miles (so 15+ miles round trip, NOT INCLUDING any other hiking you might do).
SECOND, when you do get on the shuttle, go straight to the end (Stop 9). If you get off at earlier stops and still expect to go deeper into the canyon, you will probably have to wait a while to get on a shuttle, especially as the day goes on. The sheer number of people in the park was insane and like I said above, there is only so much room on a shuttle. If nobody gets off, you can't get on an already full shuttle. So...if you get off at an earlier stop to walk around and then try to get back on, you're pressing your luck. If instead you go straight to the end, it seemed like the shuttles going down-canyon (back to the visitor center) were a lot less full, at least in the morning. We did the park in reverse order and only got turned away from a full shuttle once all day and it was between stops 2 and 1 (visitor center), so we just walked the last mile along the road.
THIRD/LASTLY, be prepared and have a plan. The park gets very crowded, very quickly. As soon as you get there, get a map at the visitor center (or, if it's still closed because you got there early like I suggested, they have them available as you are getting on the shuttle). While you are on the shuttle, go over the map and decide what you want to see, where you want to hike, etc. Follow your plan; if you deviate, you will get frustrated because trails and shuttle stops get super busy. As far as planning ahead, bring multiple sets of clothing, lots of water, and a travel/sport backpack. Some parts of the canyon can be very cold in the morning because of a lack of direct sunlight. The day we were there eventually was in the mid-60s, but it was extremely cold in the morning, especially around the Riverside Walk and Narrows (both at Stop 9). You will want to dress warm early, but then be able to change to shorts and a t-shirt. There are lots of places to hike, some easy, some strenuous, so you will need water. I also saw a lot of people with hiking poles, but I think those were really only necessary for the Narrows and Angel's Landing; everything else was easy enough without them.
TL:DR...The park gets very busy and the shuttles can have extremely long wait times...get there as early as possible, go straight to the end (Stop 9) so you can do the park in reverse order to avoid some of the crowds, and plan ahead with proper gear.Written March 26, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - HeavyHikerFarmingdale, NY402 contributionsWe started the hike from the Grotto trailhead as the footbridge at the Zion Lodge was still closed. There are several trials that originate after you cross the river via footbridge. The path you want to take is up the steps to the left. We did this hike in the early morning. The lighting was perfect and the trail was not crowded. The trail steadily ascends but is not overly tough. We saw birds, caterpillars, tadpoles and a scorpion. Access to the Lower Pools was via a long descending staircase. This particular section of trail leads to the Middle Pools, which were nice but underwhelming. The views from the trail were far better than the pools themselves. We did not attempt to go to the Upper Pools. Overall, it was a lovely morning hike and worth doing.Written July 7, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
