My husband and I hiked this trail on a Monday in mid May in early afternoon and it was not busy at all. It features rock formations and desert plants. We had plenty of times where we were the only ones on the path of what we could see. It was about a mile in length, but took about 45 minutes due to stopping and taking photos. Some parts of the trail are not well marked. We saw one chuckwalla.

Joshua Tree Park is amazing and Cholla Cactus Garden is a must see! Dazzle by the temperature (47 C / 117 F) we were strolling through this lanscape of cacti. The trail is easy and doesn't hold any secrets. The trail is a great start for other trails in the park and to let your body get used to the bizarre temperatures.

If you are at Joshua Tree, this is a must stop. While it is a little bit of a detour from the main loop road, it is definitely worth the extra time. You do one short loop trail (more of a walk really as it’s really short and be aware that goes uphill then comes back downhill). The views are gorgeous on both sides. One side overlooks high above Joshua Trees and the other side at mountains and a desert basin.

One tip: bring a light jacket (even in March). It can be quite windy and cold. I have also been here in January and it was COLD.

This trail was very interesting! Despite the extreme drought (no water to see), there were amazing views, varying cactus types, ancient petroglyphs, wildlife, crazy rock formations, and more!

Great hike but make sure you get there early. It starts out going up and never relents for the entire assent. Great views at top and very windy.

This was a short and easy hike (0.37 miles) and one of our favorite rock formations in Joshua Tree. It's a bit of a challenge to climb up the rock formation to get a good photo op, so be careful! One additional note - we spoke with someone as they were returning and they mentioned something called Heart Rock It's about 0.2 miles to the left of Arch Rock with a very small sign, but it is well worth the short hike. The rock is as heart-shaped as could be.

We got there very early, there were only a couple of people there, was able to take a picture of the skull rock without any visitors.

My wife and I both enjoyed this hike. The "payoff" is best if you haven't looked at the pictures in advance - which you probably have if you are reading these reviews. But if you're planning for other friends or family members hiking with you, let them be surprised... One starts off on another hike through arid landscape and then - pow! - you see the green, photogenic oasis. Nothing technically difficult about the hike. Don't skip this hike in the NE corner of the park, easily accessed from the town of Twentynine Palms.

Split Rock is easily accessed right off the highway and is a popular spot for beginning rock climbers to develop their skill. For folks not quite so adventuresome, there is a very nice nature hike complete with detailed signs that allows you to develop a better understanding of the desert. The area has some interesting birds, so take your binoculars.

We were lucky enough to reserve this Ranger led tour ahead of time (minimal fee) and it was so interesting and rich. You learn so much history of the area and of the lifestyle of the Keyes family (and families like them). It made the rest of our Joshua Tree exploring that much more enjoyable; like putting a picture into a frame!

When you are at the south end of the park, the Cottonwood VC is your best opportunity for a restroom break and getting good ranger information. During the virus, many facilities are under limited operating conditions, so be prepared. The book and gift shop may not be open. Ranger guided functions are suspended which will hopefully end in the near future. There are hikes that start in the immediate vicinity that may be of interest, including one near the Cottonwood Spring. You will also be near the Jajada Nature Trail which is just a bit further south. Desert plants in this area are somewhat different from what you'll find further north, so if desert flora is of interest, you may wish to take this short 0.3 mile walk.

Our family did this 2mi loop on our first day and it was a gorgeous intro to the area. Incredible rock formations. Gentle, well-marked loop trail. Not crowded at all at 3pm on a Sunday.

Very interesting rock formations and good site for pictures of Joshi trees. It’s a short walk to get closer to the rocks that you see from the parking lot.

It is certainly a must do stop if you are visiting Joshua Tree National Park. Not too far a walk from the car park and, even in the heat, was manageable. Good place to get some interesting photos

Joshua Tree is well with rocks. They are so many rocks, boulders and mountains and they are all beautiful.

My favorite was the Arch Rock.

    However enjoy the pictures of.

    A must see!
