Visiting Husky Homestead, where Huskies are raised and trained for mush racing, was one of the highlights of our 2+ vacation in Alaska. When you arrive you are greeted by staff who place a months-old husky puppy in your arms, with the goal of getting the pups accustomed to being around people. You then get a demonstration of how the dogs are trained for the races. They all seemed to love to run. The demonstration is followed by a lecture by Jeff King, and Iditarod winner, who provided some history to mushing and recounted some of his own experiences. Husky Homestead is in Denali Park, Alaska, the town where the main entrance to Denali National Park is located.

Great day trip to Denali from Fairbanks, even got a glimpse of Denali from Park Road mile marker 9. You know you are at the right spot if you see the diagram of the mountain range profile by the pullout. Lucky to spot it the day I went.

Very well organized visitor center. The gift shop is great! We joined the tour “fruits of the Denali” ( apologies if name is not fully accurate). Emmily, the Guard who conducted the walk and training is excellent. She engages the participants into a learning walking showing the plants and animals resident in the Park. We learned a lot. It was pedagogic, entreating and fun while we were walking enjoying an extraordinary weather of 67F on 8/30. The trails are beautiful, crossing the bridges to see the power of crystalline waters is just a present for your soul.
    Enjoy

It's a long way - 90 miles - form the Park Entrance to Kantishna Road House on a mostly one lane gravel highway. The drivers are experienced and it shows on some of the passes - no guardrails and it's a long way down. We were fortunate to leave hours before the road closed for the season due to a landslide.

We visited in the beginning of April. It was very cold, but weather was beautiful and skies were clear. We absolutely loved the winter hike, silence and snow around us. The views were outstanding. Highly recommended for everyone who loves nature no matter winter or summer.

The trail access is right from the visitor center parking lot. The elevation gain starts fairly gradual, and then after the 'superhighway' stops, it gets slightly more inclined. A very doable trail - just take breaks when you need to. The views at the top are very worth it.

The trail is fairly heavily visited - so the chances of seeing wildlife is probably on the minimal side. We saw a raven, ptarmigans, and a very greedy squirrel at the top.

We were there on the 3rd of September, so fall colors were definitely starting.

While staying at the Denali Backcountry Lodge we did a number of hikes up next to the lake and they were all just wonderful. It is worth seeing. If you are interested in seeing some video of the area, go to YouTube and type in "Tour of Denali Back Country Lodge, tour Denali National Park, and flight out around Denali Mountain" and it will bring up my video on Pat's Adventures of it and other things in Denali.

We did the trail with an assist from the bus. We parked at the Savage Cabin, waited for the bus, and then took it to the savage river trailhead (the parking at Savage River was full). This worked nice as the west side of the trail is steeper than the east side - so it was easier on my knees. The views are very nice - cloudy the day we were there, but still beautiful. We saw marmots. It was very windy at one of the passes - very very very windy. Yes there is elevation gain/loss, but I didn't find it extremely difficult. We saw a moose right on the trail near the Savage Cabin - there are a lot of people on the trail though - so it was easy to stay safe.

View from this hiking was fantastic and unforgettable. Hiking can be strenuous for some if they are not used to narrow steep trails as it will be in one end. Be aware of no coverage and take plenty of water and some snacks.

I rode the Denali Star Train from Anchorage to Fairbanks. The ride was smooth and the views were great. I will always cherish this experience.

Not a lot to this place, a restroom with flushable toilets (which I would recommend using before boarding your bus!), and a few scattered exhibits to occupy you while you wait for your bus to be called. There's also an area for filling water bottles before departing. The staff was quite friendly and efficient, got us checked in, into line for boarding, and on the bus quickly.

It was great to be able to find a Catholic church in the area. Parishioners were friendly and welcoming.

Great if your looking for a longer trail in Denali. We started from the trailhead and walked all the way to the Ranger's station and back for a total of about 19 miles. You get to see three lakes and great views once you ascend the mountain. I would rate it as hard just because of the distance required to complete the trail there and back plus some steep climbs up the mountain. The views are well worth it. We didn't see much wildlife along the trail. The weather was great to do it in August.

Scenic hike, steep ascent and descent leads to top of hill near river, serene, leads you away from any business and just beautiful!
