Capitol Reef National Park
#2 of 31 things to do in Capitol Reef National Park
It's a great park for kids, with trails, 9 billion rocks and sandstone faces for kids to climb on, orchard and picnic grounds, ancient petroglyphs that look like aliens.
It has a separate child-friendly interpretative center, fruit orchard, some splashing and wading opportunities in the creek, and FANTASTIC night stars.

Capitol Reef National Park Visitor Center
#6 of 31 things to do in Capitol Reef National Park
The center has restrooms, water fill stations, rangers, maps, an overview of the park, a gift shop and is the start and finish of the Junior Ranger Program for children.
So many scenic pullouts and just a photo bonanza.. Accessible and family friendly.
Capitol Gorge Trail

Most of the hike is flat, but our kids loved climbing the rock formations alongside the trail.
An easy picturesque hike suitable for young children
Goosenecks Overlook
#9 of 31 things to do in Capitol Reef National Park
If you have small children keep them on a short leash because there are steep cliffs, few guardrails, and it's a long drop to the canyon floor.
And if you're lucky your youngest child will sit on a narrow outcrop teetering hundreds of feet above the canyon floor, and almost give you a heart attack.

On our way to Moab, our kids had the most delicious strawberry and rubarb pie they ever had.
Something totally different that my kids loved.
The Hickman Bridge Trail
#3 of 31 things to do in Capitol Reef National Park
Along the way, there are neat rock formations, including an area to climb down and into a little tunnel -- great area for kids to play.
We’re experienced hikers, and this was an easy 1.8 miles on packed dirt – great for families: there aren’t many places a little kid could get into trouble (compared to other parts of the park)… but if it rained in...

Behunin Cabin
#19 of 31 things to do in Capitol Reef National Park
The one room stone house measures 13′ x 17′ and Elijah Behunin and his wife and thirteen children lived there in 1883 for only one year before pulling up stakes and moving up-canyon to the nearby town of Fruita.
I cannot imagine raising 13 kids in the cabin with my husband.
