As a top thing to do while in Osaka, I had to come here. The picture with the running man is also a must. Not a super clean part of Japan, but the food is outstanding.

Although touristy it is definitely nice to visit.
Especially the gardens around it and better still those are free.
Best to get here early as a lot of tourists and tour groups with annoying flags will come here

It is a pretty area with lots of shopping and dining options. Cleanliness is slightly questionable and unlike many places in Kyoto and Tokyo, I visited people smoke openly on the streets instead of in designated smoking areas. Overall, it was fine but I believe I need another visit to totally get a feel of the place

If you like comedy, this is a sacred place to visit. You can definitely enjoy a fun day. Osaka is a comedy city. I think the level of Japanese comedy should be highly evaluated around the world.

Absolutely wonderful venue for a truly unique experience. Non Japanese visitors can access English audio guides that help explain the history and performance. A must-visit for theatre fans.

Definitely not a neighborhood for everyone, however odds are if you are coming here it means you did your research and have an interest. Numerous multi level stores selling all things anine. From books to movies to collectibles to models, and not only just anime but other popular japanese interests like entire floors of stores dedicated to WWII models. The amount of products in these stores and how many of them there are is almost overwhelming, but if it's what you enjoy, you'll have a good time. If you have no interest in any of this japanese pop culture stuff, you wont find much here worth your time.

Hozen-ji Temple is a small but quaint temple hidden amongst the warren of streets that lie between the bright neon signs of Dotonbori and the shopping malls of Namba.

Going through the temple gate is like stepping out of the modern frantic noisy world and into the past. Hozen-ji has this special, peaceful, and magical atmosphere. The temple dates back to 1637 and was larger however the shops and teahouses gradually encroached into the temple grounds. The area was razed by the WWII bombings, with the exception of one temple statue, Fudo Myo-o, the remover of obstacles and destroyer of evil. He is normally depicted with a very fierce and angry face. Local folklore has it that after the war a local had her wish come true by throwing water over the statue, then everybody followed suit (wanting their wishes fulfilled) and as a result the statue is now covered in moss giving it a more serene and softer appearance.

So when you visit make a wish and splash water on the statue who knows it may come true. In saying that this is really a peaceful oasis after wandering through Dotonbori.

Though not especially attractive, this bridge sits amidst “the happening” atmosphere of the locality with views complete with neon lights, people watching, varied food choices.
