What travelers are saying
- Phil DDubai, United Arab Emirates24 contributionsWe went there as part of a tour, it was interesting for me as I am an Engineer but not so much for my wife, it would be great for kids.Written November 7, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- AQflyerKailua, HI170 contributionsAs this with many attractions world wide, parts of the Nagoya Castle are closed, however I did really enjoy my visit and the informative signs throughout the sections that were available to tour.
I was surprised to learn it took so long to restore such cultural heritage piece after WWII.
Worth the small fee.Written September 17, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - ChloeTaySingapore, Singapore142 contributionsWe stayed in Sakae for 3 nights. There are 3 underground shopping streets that are connected by Sakae subway. Two major shopping malls are close by as well. Oasis21 is just 10 mins walk from our hotel. There are many restaurants in Sakae.Written November 7, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Xin_Wang_PrestigeHong Kong, China8 contributionsJust need to spare 1 or 2 hours to enjoy here. Clean, friendly staff. Easy to walk around, especially if good weather.Written July 3, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- superbsandra28 contributionsWe went to this art museum mostly because it was close to the Science Museum, but we didn't even end up going to that one after the art museum, ha!
There were several impressive works in both the permanent and special exhibitions. At ¥700 yen for both, it seemed very affordable.
Note: there is very little English-language information available besides the name of the piece and the artist. You cannot take pictures, but if you explain nicely to the staff in each area, you may use a cell phone for translation purposes.Written November 7, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - platypus150Melbourne, Australia24,620 contributionsThere are great displays of all aspects of the production, distribution, and use of electricity. There are only some basic signs in English. It is designed for junior high school students and has a lot of space for sitting. If you are run off your feet, you can take a break, relax and use the clean toilets. It is free entry. If you are a collector of museum impression stamps, take your book here. I think I must have found about seven to add to my collection here.Written April 27, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- ZimminaroundtheworldOkinawa Prefecture, Japan1,748 contributionsI always like to visit the arcade style streets in Japanese Cities. They are all different. The Osu Shopping Street had a lot going on. When I went pretty much all shops and restaurants were open and it was crowded. There was a mix of everything from high end stores to local crafts. This street is perfect for wandering around in any type of weather. I feel it's worth checking out.Written January 8, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Rito I AsiloMandaluyong, Philippines332 contributionsI was just checking out the area one night when I saw Shirakawa Park. Around it are the Nagoya City Science Museum and the nearby Arts Museum. There's a fountain in front of the Science Museum too. Many students are practicing dances and cheer choreographies. Having said this, the place feels safe though I think it needs more light for evening strollers. It doesn't compare to the size of Meijo Park or the gardens of the latter. It's just a quadrangle where people could sit back and relax. There are 2 subway stations in the vicinity, and restaurants across the busy highway.Written July 2, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Tos TJapan8 contributionsIn Lachic, cafes are always crowded. In the 12th or 13th floor restaurants I can enjoy meal. After meal I look for a cafe, but every cafe has no empty seats. Then I go to the 4th floor, Beardsley. that is a female clothes ship. But there is a casual cafe. If you can't find a cafe, try it.Written August 26, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Peter F1 contributionThe tower was closed January 7, 2019 for Earthquake reinforcement.
The works a scheduled to be completed in approximately July 2020.

So we went to this departmental store for a walk and try to find something to eat around the area. Was very pleased and amazed by the food at the supermarket. They looked attractive as usual like all Japanese supermarket food street/corner. We bought a beef bento and some deep fried chicken bites to eat in hotel room after checked in. Didn't take photos of those we bought, but took picture of a beautiful bento set.Written April 1, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Lnuge318Wagga Wagga, Australia174 contributionsYou don't think of this or at least I didn't, that these would be dotted amongst the community. It's a very quaint shrine to service the local community. Not something you'd travel to see but our air BnB was close so we went in. If you are close by pay a visit.Written April 11, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- lucem808Honolulu, Hawaii, United States932 contributionsStarting near Nagoya Station, the Nagoya Festival happens on October 20th and 21st. The main parade moves through the street down to Hirokoji Dori street and turns heading towards Sakae Station, and finally down to Yaba-cho. There is one key stop, just as it turns by Sakae Station with a large intersection--they replay major, key battles in the history of feudal Japan (pre-dating the Edo period). This is almost entirely in Japanese, but you get the idea, with colored flags and armies, with key figures taking part in the battles--notably the feudal lords Nobunaga Oda, Hideyoshi Toyotomi, and Ieyasu Tokugawa.
This parade is very organized, with crews preparing the streets to stop traffic just before the parade arrives, and ending the blockades as the parade passes (unlike some parades I've been to which shut down the entire parade path for hours). I jumped ahead from Nagoya Station, walking the path ahead of the parade--I wanted to see other events, like those taking place at Hisaya Odori Park and Oasis 21. It is far easier to just take a train to Hisaya Odori Station or Sakae Station, as it is a long walk.
You get a mix of modern and historic Nagoya in this parade, with some floats and marching bands. If you can understand Japanese, all the better. Yet, the main portions seem to take place whenever there is a larger space, as the parade turns--you'll notice a much larger crowd than those lining the regular streets--as there's more space for reenactments, etc.
Also, during this event, there is free entry to places like Nagoya Castle, science and art museums, etc. Hisaya Odori Park also has food and game vendors, as well as live performances. Next to the park is Oasis 21 which also hosted Craftsmen of Nagoya Exhibit as well as a performing arts festival.
Basically, the whole city comes to life celebrating it's history, past and present. This is definitely the best time to go and visit Nagoya, if you like festivals and want to experience a mix of entertainment, culture, and history.Written November 4, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Rob S84 contributionsTrough Google and Lonely Plant I got the impression the park contains an orchid collection. Well it doesn't there are a few plants and an orchid shop. Not worth the visit for this reason for the rest it is a nice green space in the middle of too much concrete.Written September 14, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
