What travelers are saying
- Cora1 contributionIncredibly informative. The guide was super knowledgeable about the environmental impacts of farming, brewing process and results, and many other topics that were engaging. Very down to earth and honest. The gift shop was super reasonably priced, but the whole tour was worth every cent. Delicious coffee, of course.Written May 23, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- konatraveler56Kailua-Kona, HI14 contributionsRead about this place here on TripAdvisor and being a bit of a railroad buff I had to go see it. The day we were there the museum was not open. It’s a short hike to the trestle spanning the Rio Grande River. I walked to the middle of the trestle and back. I would say it’s generally pretty dangerous. There is a maybe 14-16” wide “walkway” (with some gaps) missing railroad ties and just in general a lot of places to fall through. You’re looking at a very long fall to the bottom of the gorge so if you are afraid of heights or have poor balance this is not for you. No way I’d take a kid on the trestle. I did a little research on the history. The line operated from the late 1800’s into the 1990s. After an earthquake that damaged the line I get the impression there weren’t enough funds to repair it. The locomotive that sits at the station was built in Berlin Germany.Written March 20, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Mike PSeattle, WA36 contributionsUnderstood it was typically open on Sundays - went and was closed. Hours are not posted well on the website. I've sent two emails to the website's address to verify hours but have not heard back. Disappointed but really want to goWritten September 26, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- tyagiNew York City, NY401 contributionsRight on the main plaza. Very large. The stained glass windows behind the altar light up the sanctuary most of the day.Written August 23, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - bluemonk79New York City, NY4 contributionsAs a woman traveling alone in Atenas, without more than a kindergarten vocabulary of Spanish, I knew I would enjoy exploring Atenas more if I had someone who can make me feel safe. Walter put me at ease right away and with his time spent living in New Jersey he not only has command of English he can even understand my sense of humor too. So it was like trekking with an old friend. Walter made me feel comfortable right away and his fee very reasonable.
I would definitely trust him to arrange bigger group outings too as he is a very responsible person and I can tell he takes his job of giving the traveler the best experience with pride.
I truly felt like I touched the heart of the people of Atenas with the places and stories Walter introduced me to. So if you are looking for context, and not just a transport, Walter will open your eyes.Written April 17, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. A friend connected us with Esteban and Kate and our trip wouldn’t have been the same without them. It was a great balance of adventure and relaxation for the two of us.
We originally planned to drive ourselves for more flexibility, but changed our minds to have Esteban drive us. That was 100% the right call. He had connections for activities and shared bikes, paddle boards, etc, which helped us make the most of our 8 days in Costa Rica.
After a Zoom meeting and a few emails, we were ready to go. Our trip included everything we were looking for - beaches, snorkeling, animals, hiking, rain forests, and mountain biking. Esteban and Kate planned an awesome itinerary and offered other options to change plans based off of weather or if we were in the mood for something else. We highly recommend Aventuras Costa Rica to help you plan a wonderful vacation!Written August 14, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Met up with Todd outside of Jaco and rode up into the hills for a 2 hour ride. The mountain bike he brought for me was in great shape and equipment worked good. He also brought me a spare helmet. The ride took us to an overlook way above Jaco. Todd was friendly, full of information and rode at my pace. Will definitely look Todd up again the next time I’m in Costa Rica.Written April 13, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
