We came today for the two hour tour and from beginning to end, we loved it!! Hearing the stories about how the tunnel was used in both WW2 and Victorian times from our guides, Ian and Dee was fascinating.
We have just spent a very informative and entertaining 2 hours in the very capable hands of Tour Guides Dave, Pete and Carl learning about the building of the tunnel and its use during WWII as an air raid shelter.

It is one of the smaller Catholic cathedrals but has beautiful proportions and is well worth a visit - whether to say a prayer, attend a service, light a candle or simply to enjoy the serenity to be found here.
The garden reflects Cardinal Hume's particular attachment for the holy landscape of Northumbria and the Northern Saints from which he drew spiritual inspiration.

It's an amazing little step back in time to a more heroic era with stories and actual relics from the many shipwrecks that adorned the small patch of North Shields beneath the Watch House itself.
This is a very atmospheric little museum, dedicated to the unsung heroes, volunteers all, who save lives, then just go back to work again.
