- Freedom5587103 contributionsWent out on their smallest panga, guapa, on two separate days. On the first day, we had Wilber as our captain. He’s worked there for a while and is extremely knowledgeable about the area. Very nice family man. Awesome service! He based our trip on local tide and wind conditions.
First stop was witches rock. It was big, but awesome! He told us where to go and how to navigate the current. Then we went out to do some fishing. Hooked a big rooster fish, but I farmed it. After fishing a bit, we headed over to Ollie’s point for the low tide. It was unbelievable! Long rolling rights! Came back to the boat and bonito ceviche and sashimi was awaiting. I always thought bonito was crap fish, but it was so good, even my 13 year-old son liked it… and he doesn’t eat sushi.
On day two, we had jonathon as our captain, with josue assisting. Jonathon had a ton of fishing gear and was very knowledgeable in rigging for fishing. Started off surfing a secret spot during the morning high tide. Had it all to ourselves.
Then went fishing off las Islas. Within 5 minutes, we hooked a 40 lb wahoo. A little later, we caught a dorado. Then a big rainbow runner (like a yellowtail in California). Hooked another big rooster fish, but lost it. In between fish, they quickly filleted the fish, placed the meat in plastic bags, and immediately put them on ice. We took a big bag of fish back to hotel el velero, where the chef prepared it for us. We could’ve taken all of it, but there was way too much!
Finished the day off with another epic session at Ollie’s.
Overall, these guys have well-rounded knowledge of both fishing and surfing.
It was the best trip I’ve ever had snd one that my son and I will never forget!
And…. The price was great!

Every year we take a trip to a different country and we always book a fishing trip to catch fish that are native to the island and in all the ones we had this one was the best. Jerald and Captain Robert were so knowledgeable about fishing and so many things about the island. It was incredible. We got to see so many cool things that some were so fast you couldn’t catch it on camera but amazing to see in person. We caught 3 rooster fish that day and also a black tuna, a mackerel, some lady fish and blue runner. The crew were so friendly and Jerald was exceptionally with the lunch, snacks and beverages. Would definitely recommend them and this trip to everyone!!!!Written March 14, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Zach B1 contributionThe overall experience was a amazing. We saw monkey island, saw the cave, snorkeled where we saw many different fish including a puffer fish, and fed an apple to monkeys. John Wayne gave set up the tour and he was also great. We experienced everything he said we would.Written May 26, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Patrice O2 contributionsMy family just got back from Costa Rica. One of the highlights was the Palo Verde River Cruise. Luis was our river guide and he did a fantastic job of getting us to the site. He went out of his way to meet us and take us to a wonderful restaurant beforehand and then onto the river cruise. Getting there by yourself can be a bit confusing. There are no marked roads. On the cruise we saw whiteface monkeys that came onto our boat! We also saw many crocodiles, iguanas, bats, huge grasshoppers and much more. Luis is very friendly and most accommodating!!Written July 31, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
