By serendipity, the hotel pick up coach was full so I had to take the bus from the Sapporo bus terminal which was easy to get too and within walking distance via the underpass from my hotel.
The bus from downtown can get crowded -- there were people left waiting from the 2nd stop -- and takes an hour and a half, or sometimes two hours on the return depending on traffic.
