It is worth the steep climb up the steps embedded in the dune because the views are wonderful, especially towards Cap Ferret, the Lighthouse and La Bassin D'Arcachon.
Maybe a bit too hot in the height of the Summer and pretty crowded.
Definitely not for people with mobility problems. There are plenty of cafés and snacks available in the huts leading to the base of the dune.
    It's quite an amazing experience!

Fantastic architecture enhanced with the water mirror in front of it. Best visited at night when the lights pop out more.

Very nice theme park. Lots of attractions for all ages. Avoid week-ends with bank holidays before or after the weekend if you don’t have great patience skills. Waiting time can be 120 to 140 minutes for most popular attractions (tornado chasers, Time Machine, extraordinary journey, etc.). Don’t expect to pay a lesser price even when attractions (objectif Mars, Mysteries of Kubic) are technically down.

This visit was amazing. We learnt a lot about how the red wine is done in this region. From the vineyard to the wine itself. The degustation was delicious, with a nice explanation on each wine we tried. It allowed us to compare different wine product differently. It was an amazing experience. The host was very kind and helpful when we had questions. I recommend definitely this chateaux for your trip.

The Vieux Port is the best place to start any visit to La Rochelle because from here you can walk to anywhere as well as visiting many of the sites that are part of the harbour like the famous Towers.

We visited the chateau after a gap of almost 20 years. The tribute to Josephine Baker is still the main theme, but it is now enhanced with a modern audio guide, which is excellent and adds to the experience. The restoration of the chapel was a completely new feature (for us) and so well done (again supported by an audio guide, wonderfully narrated by the owners daughter. Add in the gardens with their stunning water features and the whole experience keeps growing. Then there is the extra delight of the falconry display which is as spectacular as we remember it. We can also recommend the Bistro cafe which offers good food at a reasonable price in a lovely setting. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole day which lasted some 5 hours; simply lovely.

This is one of the most complete small Medieval castles in Europe, and is worth a detour. Its strategic location above the Dordogne is immediately apparent.

We parked at the foot of town in P1 and walked the steep incline to the Chateau. Others drove the narrow streets but my rental SUV would have have had a hard time fitting. Note: look for other ways to get to Chateau Parking.

We paid 23 Euro for two to enter and at first I thought that was expensive, but it was in fact a bargain. There is much to see. The exhibit on Eleanor of Aquitaine and her son, Richard the Lionheart, was excellent. The public rooms of the caste are great. You get a better understanding of life in a medieval castle by visiting. There is also a Renaissance staircase and rooms adorned in Renaissance style. See the great hall, the kitchen and everything else as you tour.

The walls and ramparts of the castle are intact and thanks to renovations over the past 20 years, it’s remarkably intact. I expected we’d stay a few minutes but instead we stayed well over an hour.

A somber stop that is important to see. A visit begins with a downhill walk to the museum, where there is a timeline of WWII events and then a section showing the everyday life of this village and what happened when the Nazis arrived. Leaving the museum, you walk uphill to the Village des Martyrs. It is sobering to see the burned-out building and read the signs telling the story.
This village is much larger than anticipated, but I would encourage you to walk all the way out to the cemetery.

We deliberately revisited the gardens for the first time in almost 20 years. As to be expected very little had changed, which is probably as it should be, i.e. the gardens offer that timeless atmosphere with glorious unparalleled views - the three castles, cannot be beaten. We could not remember the viewing platform at the Belvedere, but the view to the Roque is still absolutely stunning. As to the recent TA comments about the gardens not being ones offering variety of planting - just topiary and hedges - well that’s the point, the latter are ‘Marqueyssac’. Unique and so well done. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip down memory lane!
The cafe also is offers a calm place to sit and enjoy the views of Beynac castle whilst having a coffee and eats - albeit the crepes were a big disappointment as they were extremely rubbery and obviously not prepared fresh. Hopefully the cafe manager will take note - crepes in France have to be fresh and melt in the mouth!!!
