This sanctuary pulsing with tourists, is the prime place which is visited. So no matter which time you visit it will be crowded. But late afternoon can be the best time. It is said that St. Michael have left a footprint in stone inside the grotto. After the entrance you will walk down the stairs to grotto. Before you enter the grotto pay attention to silver and bronze doors cast in Constantinople in 1076. You can not see the footprints they are covered by the statue of archangel. Unfortunately not many info given on info panels about the sanctuary. The entrance free, only fee for the museum. In high season open from 7:00-20:00 (19:30 weekdays) off season 7:00-13:00 / 14:30-19:00 (17:00 weekdays).

After having paid 2 euros per person, we were allowed access to this ancient castle. We were the only visitors today, so plenty of space to spend the afternoon, walking around, and enjoying the views.

Unvelibeble place. A paradise for a orienteerer runners, for sure. But very interesting forest to walk and do excursions, Ideal to get away from the summer heat in the coastal villages. The temperature can be up to 15 degrees lower.

You could walk through this atmospheric part of Monte Sant'Angelo for ages and still find something new to impress you. The streets are still the narrow, twisting mediaeval places they were centuries ago and the place is full of narrow alleys and flights of steps, sharp corners and sudden magnificent views of the sea far below. There are several marked trails which cover the major points of interest and help you not to get lost, but we rather enjoyed just wandering around and eventually finding our way back.

The Tomb of Rotari, a baptistery of the 13th century. Tthe seventeenth-century rose window placed on the entrance portal, the bases of four granite columns are remains after the earthquake. The Entrace via San Pietro church, fee 1€. Easy to locate, just few meters / or let’s opposite of Sancturio di San Michael, down the stairs.

One of the important pilgrimage site spanning on the mountain top. The old town is compact and small, it does not mean easy navigation apart from the castle, sanctuary di San Michele, or Tomba di Rotari. It is easy to get lost in the maze of narrow cobbled streets with many churches., though there are some signs for tourists circuit. The best view of the city is from the castle area. Late in the afternoon the hassle and bustle is gone when the tourists are gone. The the old city starts to be chilling-out.

This museum is not that big but it gives an insight of how life was in the days gone by.

The crafts of the area are all depicted in this museum. It makes for a good half an hour. Also, it is included in the city ticket which is just 6 euro. So, why not going?
