There is a cracking museum and a nice walk (led by very able volunteers) past the bunkers.
Museum opening is very limited as it is run by volunteers but don’t let this put you off visiting.

It’s a great tour for us Americans, a very personal tour contrasted with all the great wwii museums out there, that although wonderful, fail to capture the family experience and dilemmas presented by wwii.
In a country with many pricey museums this little gem is free.

Teylers Museum Haarlem 5.4 mi away
#3 of 12 Museums in Haarlem
The Teylers Museum is one of the oldest museums in the Netherlands and was established in the 18th century by a legacy of Pieter Teyler; therefore his residence with several collection rooms.
If you want your visit to Haarlem to be educational as well as fun, you should definitely consider the Teylers Museum, just a few blocks East of the Grote Markt and on the canal side (very close to boat tours).

This museum is included in the MuseumKaart ticket, which allows access to multiple museums in Amsterdam, too.

We walked from Central Station and there is a beautiful park...it could be a great place to bring a picnic...or there is a lovely cafe at the museum if you want to have a drink or a coffee.
This is the sort of museum I enjoy most - an immersive experience rather than just pictures and display cases.

Fresh air, traditional windmills (we visited spice mill, oil mill and sawmill), museums of traditional living, crafts and shops, boat cruise - all makes the visit unforgettable.
After the canals and the famous museums, this quaint, informative and leisurely trip is a fantastic and educational insight into how life in the Netherlands used to be like.

The clock museum was especially lovely but lots of other little fascinating museums to explore too and the large museum gave a good overview of life in the area.
We loved both the Museum and the Experience; very nicely laid out, well explained and especially the Verkade 'factory' was a great place to explore.

... I would certainly recommend it as a way of introducing the topic of the Holocaust as the museum details a child's experience without the graphic descriptions found in over World War Two and Holocaust museums.

There is a small museum/ exhibition area and a a small gift shop with Delft items cheaper than in the city shops Nearby is a great frites place to have a snack before catching the tram back to the city.
If you get tired of noisy streets of the city you always can take a tram from Museum Square and teleport to quiet suburban of Amsterdam to see this functional mill.

Rijksmuseum Amsterdam 12.9 mi away

Our artistic teenage daughter loved every moment and my not-so-wild-about-museums husband equally enjoyed our time there because Lora was an art expert who could present in a friendly, engaging, accessible style.
The Rijksmuseum is indeed 'rich' - filled with incredible artworks, sculptures, antiquities and beautiful architecture (inside + out), it is also a marvel of modern museums.

Our guide, Pieter, was excellent- his passion and knowledge of the museums and specifically the life and history of Van Gogh was fascinating and most interesting- well worth the time and price of admission!
We have visited museums around the world but the Van Gogh Museum is the best we have seen in the way it tracks Van Gogh's life and displays his beautiful paintings.
