What travelers are saying
- Joanna D5 contributionsWe had a great day here. Our party spanned 3 generations aged from 3 to 77 and we all had a fab time.
There is so much to do here that it’s hard to know where to start!
The museum has a range of prehistoric and WOrld War exhibits as well as hands on activities. The children loved making necklaces from oyster shells and brushing the Mammoths teeth.
Outside you could have a go at milking a ‘cow’ then jump into the seat of a MIG fighter jet.
We paid extra to do the crazy golf and panning for gold. Both where well worth the money. The crazy golf was hands down the best thing we did all holiday.
The staff were all really friendly and knowledgeable. We ended our day there by getting a lift back to the main entrance in an old army jeep.
We will definitely be going back again!Written June 3, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - dick hDerby, UK3,439 contributionsWe boarded this weird ship and had a delightful introductory talk from a very helpful chap. However after that we were latched onto by a very boring man who followed us around telling us stuff that we didn't want to know, and he couldn't take the hint.
That aside, it is a very interesting boat, as we discovered when we eventually went round the boat alone. The information boards on the boat are very infomative, and tell a fascinating tale of the life aboard, and the major design mistakes the meant the boat could never fulfill it's purpose!Written June 3, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Emily A5 contributionsThere used to be an ice rink here to skate on, not anymore, but it used to be fun. I do believe you can still do a little tour through this Dutch sight-to-see, which is nice. The price is okay.Written February 6, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- TonvanKalkenHellevoetsluis, The Netherlands18 contributionsIn this museum you will find lots of old fire engines and materials used y the fire brigade. Really worth wild to visit.Written August 7, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- alexonanoLondon, UK9 contributionsAdvised to families with kids... very funny water park (made of floating inflatables water games placed at 50mt from the beach and easily reachable via a catwalk on the water) at a reasonable price.Written August 7, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- CosetteiscookinUtrecht, The Netherlands477 contributionsNice for a short stop during a stroll through Hellevoetsluis. On the ship there's information over the ship and lightships in general. Fun part was climbing the light house with a beautiful view of the docks, the harbour and Hellevoetsluis.
I made a solo visit, since my husband was temporarly in a wheelchair and the ship isn't wheelchair accesible.Written July 16, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Robert ORotterdam, The Netherlands3,128 contributionsIn 1801 this mill was built at this location because it is ideal to catch wind. Moreover the smock model allows the miller to put the sails in the best position. He can handle a device from the circular platform by himself. The old mill was more land inward, where now the Blanken dry dock is.
Also good as a viewpoint over the old fortifications.Written September 5, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Patricia Christina de BordesThe Hague, The Netherlands176 contributionsIn the old centre of Hellevoetsluis, one is still able to see how Hellevoet was protected by old walls and bunkers during many centuries. As a child I used to play here and enjoy the scenery and during summer the festival was held there. Nowadays one can get guided tours.Written December 8, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Robert ORotterdam, The Netherlands3,128 contributionsA modest Dutch reformed church in the center of Hellevoetsluis. It was built in 1661. The tower was completed in 1693. I liked the sober interior, no distraction as in so many Catholic churches. Remarkable is the position of the pulpit, right in the middle at the spot where in Catholic churches usually the central altar is. A simple communion table has been placed in front of it.
The church was open when I visited on a Saturday afternoon. Friendly believers willing to communicate with visitors.Written August 16, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - gurt65Hellevoetsluis, The Netherlands1,018 contributionsStadsmuseum Hellevoetsluis is nicely located at the marine harbour of Hellevoetsluis. The Brandweermuseum (lots of old fire brigade cars!) is next door. The Stadsmuseum offers great overview of living in this region in former days. Each year there's a special topic exhibition. In 2013 that was 'Post and letters in former days' in 2014 'At home'. The entrance fee is very low (2 euros), children free. Check the website for opening times. Take about 1 - 2 hrs for your visit. Combined with the museum next door count on 3 hrs. Enjoy!Written July 28, 2014This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Robert ORotterdam, The Netherlands3,128 contributionsLocated at the west side of the bridge in central Hellevoetsluis. It looks like a small shop, which indeed it is as well, but they do provide tourist information. Maps with interesting cycling routes in the vicinity and even a map with the local birds are available free of charge. Staff has lots of information on what to do and what is of interest in Hellevoetsluis and surroundings.Written September 5, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- FerrisXLAmsterdam, The Netherlands332 contributionsThe lighthouse is relatively small and was not open for visit when we arrived. Nevertheless worth to pass by.Written May 7, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
