This is a run we kept coming back to throughout last ski season, at least until they opened the Kachina Peak Lift, from which you can access the upper part of Hunziger. Hunziger bowl can be accessed by riding up lift 4, going to the left, and then climbing a slight pitch to your right, just above the Kachina Lift. Hunziger Bowl is a fairly steep bowl, wide at the top, narrowing towards the bottom. At the end, you can head off to the right, hugging the slope towards some tree runs (and continue further right to El Funko, which is also excellent), or simply go straight down, veering to the left, and back down to the base of lift 4. Hunziger is a great place to go when things are crowded elsewhere, and is well worth the slight climb to get there.

Wow once in any skier's life should include a run down Al's Run and I DO MEAN down hill! Wish I could go the world championship in April!

This is a network of private trails, found between the Bull of the Woods Trail / Columbine Hondo Wilderness and the Wheeler Peak Wilderness. These trails are well-maintained, and the surface is easier to deal with than some of the forest service trails in the area. In the end, though, all of the trails up the Rio Hondo on the way to Taos Ski Valley and beyond are splendid. The Northside trails are probably the gentlest trails, however.

My family of 4 (2 kids, age 7 and 12) hiked this trail on 2nd July 2020. We arrived at the parking on the edge of the highway at about 10 am. At this time there were spaces for a few more cars but this was during covid-19. The initial part of this trail is definitely hard as its up, up and more up. We met a few hikers not long into the hike debating whether to go on any further as its definitely steep. However the good news is that the first part of the trail is the worst and after a initial upwards slog it becomes more gradual and eventually you are rewarded with magical alpine meadows. We didn't see any cows but we did see cowpats so they must be there sometimes. There is also a little mountain stream which was so refreshing. There are a number of meadows that you hike through and are great for a picnic and finally you enter the trees again for the final push to the end of the trail. This part of the trail is very steep and very loose and we really needed our hiking poles. When you get to the top and the Lobo Peak Trail, make sure you turn right and hike 100 yards to where you have amazing views of Wheeler Peak and the Taos Ski Valley.

My 10 year old daughter skied for the first time here at Taos ski school. She honestly didn’t want to do it and I had to make her. Fast forward to lunch during her lesson… she was hooked! Her instructors cared and really seemed to enjoy their job. They went of their way to make all the kids feel like they were rocking it at skiing. My daughter did great and even snuck in a few extra slopes. I don’t recall her instructors name, but he was amazing. Really. 10/10 for the whole staff at the ski school.

The folks at Cottam are amazing. Every time I am there, the place is a frenzy, but the staff is always nice, informative, and FAST. I have been in the ski business and know how tough this work is. They do it with professionalism - plus they have a great sledding hill out back!

This season, I purchased new Technica performance boots, which were unbelievably terrific, however given have one foot slightly smaller than the other & same leg 1/4" shorter than the other, needed help...and Marjorie of Bootdoctor's Taos Ski Valley was there for the rescue!!! She diagnosed everything i needed help with, including the aforementioned, which i didn't even need to convey given she just knew it & had previously seen it. Marjorie & Bootdoctor's are Master Bootfitters. What a Pro & resource, which is why everyone in Taos, including visitors, goes there for bootfitting & other skiing, hiking, etc needs. I also had my new K2 performance skis & Marker bindings mounted by them. Marjorie, Thank You for that which you do to make skiing, hiking, etc as wonderful as it is!!!

I’ll start with the good: The views from the snowmobile were stunning!! We felt very safe during the ride. I was the caboose of the group and the guide behind me constantly checked on me and encouraged me throughout the ride as I was a novice.

The weather was unbelievably cold!! The temperature was around 18 degrees but the wind chill was well below zero. We had our two children (9 and 7) with us. They are both well traveled, very adventurous children but they HATED every minute of it. My nine year old literally cried the entire ride. Our hands and feet were numb and burning miserably just a few minutes into the ride. No one told me about heated handlebars so I am not sure if mine were working or not - it definitely didn’t seem to be working. I have to say we were appropriately dressed but maybe needed better gloves. We had winter proof gloves but they were NOT enough. Please keep this in mind - it would have made all the difference had our hands not been so uncomfortable.

I didn’t find the customer service to be particularly good. I had many interactions with Daniel on the phone prior to my visit. He wasn’t very kind and was quite condescending when I asked general questions - it was our first time in the area and snowmobiling. In addition, Big Al can be quite abrupt in his communication but overall he wasn’t too bad. They kept emphasizing that we had to pay in cash and that if we were late, they would charge my credit card the full price. I didn’t appreciate that at all especially getting it in writing via text the morning of.

If you are looking for something fun and adventurous, you will love this. I just wouldn’t recommend bringing young children and please dress warmer than you think you should. For reference, I had 3 pairs of pants (one thermal), two shirts (one thermal), ski jacket, two pairs of socks, thermal boots and winter proof gloves. My body was fine but my hands and feet were numb and burning from near frost bite by the end.

All employees were very helpful. We had to change skis the second day. It was not a problem. They do store your skis overnight. Have to take your boots with you. You can rent a small locker for the entire time you use their skis. Short walk around the corner to the lift. We will be back.

I scheduled a deep tissue massage here last minute, and it was incredible. One of the best massages I've ever had. The therapist was Corey, who seemed to have an extensive knowledge of medical massage mixed in with relaxation. He even aligned my hips and spine back into place. Would highly recommend!

Wow! If you're going to Ski Taos, YOU MUST rent from Le Ski Mastery. They take time to really craft your experience, everything is tuned to your specifications and you will not be disappointed! The gear they rent is also top notch so you would be foolish to go anywhere else.
    Truly, an amazing customer experience!

Best place to rent ski equipment!
We have rented from Alpine Xtreme for years and wouldn’t consider renting anywhere else. Everyone in the shop is super knowledgeable about their gear/equipment and it’s always in excellent shape. Ask for Ryan or Jack and they will hook you up!!

Although one of the higher priced ski resorts, the skiing at Taos Ski Valley cannot be rivaled. The slopes are all steep, even the greens, with plenty of space for people to spread out on the mountain.

We took advantage of the children’s ski school and on-site day care. Our young child skied for the first time and had so much fun in ski school he immediately wanted to go back. Book these well ahead of time - but the booking process was easy.

The resort is great, although a small, cozy feel - with everything you need at the bottom of the mountain for a great vacation.

Very convenient way to get to the slopes. Pick up & drop off out the front of our Hotel with several morning departures which gets you up there before the lifts start. And several choices for the afternoon rush hour. Let me have a couple of drinks after a long days ski and got home safe for dinner. Did I mention it's free service ? Also if you drive there are free shuttle wagons to take you to & from your car ! Beats walking in Ski Boots! Best value in the Valley !!
