This is another example of a Saxon fortified church in this region. Built in the 14th century and walled in around 1500, with a bell tower added in the 19th century, it has a long history.
Unfortunately access can be quite difficult in that the main doors allowing any access to the site are locked. Entry is possible by ringing a mobile number of someone locally who can allow you access but at the time of our visit we were fortunate in that another visitor was already looking around so we had the opportunity to look inside.
Unfortunately, the church is in a relatively plain and worn condition and has not received the same amount of investment as Biertan which in our view is a far better and interesting option for casual visitors.

Another lovely Mihai Eminescu Trust lodging here. Somewhat more restored than some of the others (and, consequently, much warmer) but with another gracious and beautiful library. The bedrooms are large and the bedlinen crisp. The meal cooked by the building's guardian was the best we had. Hats off to the MET/experiencetransyvania for another lovely place to stay.

As others have remarked, the church is no longer really fortified but is still very pleasing.

A good place to stay if you want to get to Biertan in the morning before the crowds. Worth visiting for the lovely MET accommodation by itself.

We visited today and found a lot of construction going on. It doesn't compare to nearby Biertan. But nice pulpit and organ.

While nowadays hardly recognizable as a former fortified church (no surrounding wall anymore), the church is really nice to visit. Most of the former wall is now part of the school foundation right across the street.
The place is known for the hidden faces in the decoration of the inside walls. To really understand the history of this place a guided tour is highly advisable.

Besides all other attractions like Brasov, Bran and Sighisoara, this specific monument and surroundings are still in a unaltered state with few renovations. It is a very impressive monument reflecting the social, cultural and military development of Saxon minority in Transylvania. Definitely a must see.
