About
Nestled on an elevated site in the foot hills that hug Te Awanga, our cellar door has views down through our 42 acres of vines, across the Te Awanga basin and out to the wide blue Pacific Ocean. Decked out in white and plywood, our home in the Bay, with its sea views and salty air, is reminiscent of a New Zealand summer spent at the bach (holiday home). Chill, take your time and taste your way across the range from award-winning winemaker Rod McDonald – Trademark, Quarter Acre, Te Awanga Estate, One Off, and Mister. All day wine tasting and grazing (our menu changes seasonally, but check our website for our style of food) works by local artists and once a month during summer, we hold our world-famous-in-Te Awanga Sunday Sessions with live music from local artists on our front lawn. Or down-tools and stay a while in our cosy but cool Vineyard Apartment above the cellar door.

Every year we visit Hawke’s Bay from Boston. Te Awanga Estate is wonderful for lunch and wine tasting. Always a warm welcome from Sally, (SO HAPPY TO SEE YOU AGAIN) and fabulous food created by the food queen, Loma. The pizzas are creative and delicious as well as the veggie platter with tofu. Lovely setting and plenty of parking!

Stopped here for lunch on our cycle ride. The weather was great and the place was very busy. If you want to sit at a table you should probably ring ahead and book. Otherwise they can provide picnic blankets for you to sit on the grass.
Food is limited (pizzas and meze platters) but very well executed and arrived quickly. Obviously, an extensive wine list. I assume wine tasting is available but we didn't partake.

We had read the reviews and were therefore disappointed with our experience. Staff member was busy when we entered, but acknowledged us and gave us tasting notes saying she would be with us soon. Unfortunately two pushy women came in looking for some designer type label and that was basically the end of us getting any service. We were disappointed as we had been looking forward to trying their wines, anyhow we left our presence obviously was not missed!

The service was a shocker - it might as well be from a robot.
The hostess was not engaged at all. We have been here before (several times) and have had much better engagement in the past. It seemed that we weren't important to them at all.
The wines available for tasting were the lower end and much like everywhere else but we know they produce much better.

Just stopped by as camping nearby. Great find, friendly relaxed staff and beautiful setting looking down to the ocean. Sampled the wine tasting at the bar ($10pp - Rose our host was charming and informative) bought a bottle of our favourite (Chardonney) and enjoyed it sat on the terrace in the sunshine. Perfect afternoon 😊

We had a lovely lunch at Te Awanga. The lady running the restaurant (sorry I forgot her name) was so so welcoming. Her knowledge was amazing and the wines were delicious. We did the wine tasting and also had homemade pies, which were beautifully presented and yummy! They were also dog friendly - our little doggie felt just as welcome 😉

We had a wine tasting on our first day and second day we returned to have a glass of our preferred wines with a Pizza. The pizza was really good. A thin base with just the right amount of toppings. We sat outside, in the shade with a barrel as our table. The views were really great and the sett ING so relaxing.

Again booked ahead of time, well the day before. Great outside setting of decking and sloping grass surrounded by the vines. Great friendly staff, no table service so order at counter but good pizza and very good sharing platters and awesome dessert. Sort of place where you can sit and graze for the afternoon also has a private room for parties. I liked this place as it was more relaxing and they have a laugh, you will see this from the sign in the toilets, I won’t tell you’ll see it when you visit.

The food was really great - awesome pizzas which had gluten free options available. The wine tasting could use some improvement; it was nice and the wine was lovely, however it seems as though it wasn’t able to be done with a lot of people there. We visited on a quiet, rainy day and still had to wait a bit.

Amazing atmosphere, view, and welcoming people. Jodi the front of house staff was is the best (she should be the manager) delicious wine and food. Best way to finish a day. Highly recommend the Pinot Gris and pizzas on the grass. #Seamless Palette
