- marinasilva21 contributionUnforgettable tour!!We went as a family and what made the tour great was our Indian guide! He lives in Vale do Capão and knows everything about the area. An enlightened and very self-motivated soul. Here's a tip for you His account: (71) 99196-3714 @indio_trekking (instagram)Visited February 2024Traveled with familyWritten February 12, 2024
- Phereda O2 contributionsIf I had known it was so good, I would have made it much longer ago!Moderate level of difficulty, which may increase if it is raining. The beginning is precisely the most challenging part, with an intense climb. The trail is worth it not only for the stunning view from the top, but also for the landscape on the way to get there. I recommend going with a guide, especially if it's raining. Speaking of guides, I did all my trails there with Índio Trekking, a great guy! I will definitely look for you again when I come back. - LudimilaJequie, BA14 contributionsAmazing experience! We did the smoke waterfall trail with Indio, which made all the difference because he was our coach when we thought about giving up, as I had more difficulty he let me go ahead and always followed my pace! He took us to incredible places and made our trip incredible! We were discouraged because he had informed us that we wouldn't see a waterfall as it hadn't rained in the last few days, but we wanted to go anyway and we didn't regret it. It's really worth taking the tour with him, for the encouragement, the stories, the sinister photos and videos and the company of such a unique person.Visited March 2024Traveled with familyWritten March 29, 2024
- Thaina SaraivaJuazeiro do Norte, CE10 contributionsA day full of excitement with the best guide in the Capão Valley: Índio TrekkingOne of the most beautiful places I've ever been to in my life! I cried with emotion several times with the energy and beauty of the place. Even though many commented that the Waterfall was without water and so on... but this place goes far beyond a waterfall. And this whole surreal experience only happened because we were with the BEST guide in Vale do Capão: the Índio! He delivers everything and more. Using his words: we ended the day, with a bond of friendship created. I went during the Holy Week holiday, on Saturday 3/30. I was staying in Lençóis, I hired transport on the recommendation of the Índio, Paulão: an excellent driver who took us to and picked us up very safely. Furthermore, he made the journey quicker and told us about his wedding company in Chapada Diamantina. If you are organizing your trip and looking for a guide: send a message to Índio (71) 991963714. If you need a driver to take you to Vale do Capão: send a message to Paulo (71) 999227286. I found it here, trusted the comments and was surprised! - Paula A8 contributionsAmazing! The landscape is wonderful, the trail is challenging, but worth every step. A highlight for Camila, who was our Guide. Besides being very attentive and excited, she gives great explanations about relief, fauna and flora and also tells local curiosities. It was a wonderful walk!Visited September 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten September 20, 2024
- Carlos Henrique MartinsRio de Janeiro, RJ231 contributionsDie, mass I'm aliveCertainly that was the hardest track I made! They are about 2 hours in sharp rise, rocky paths to an altitude of 1400m. No doubt that I expected more, however, due to the dry weather the waterfall was well damaged. The descent is something surreal!!Visited October 2024Traveled soloWritten November 3, 2024
- Flavia B1 contributionCapão Valley - December 2024I made the smoke waterfall trail, clear waters and purification and Angelica with the local guide called Indian. The walks were sensational. Very polite Indian, careful and knows the region well in addition to taking pictures of our group. We spent sensational days in the hood and as India says we lived the extraordinary.Visited December 2024Traveled with friendsWritten December 14, 2024

Going to the waterfall was one of my biggest desires when visiting Capão. What I didn't expect was that this would be one of the greatest experiences I've had.
Guided by a somewhat enlightened, special person (Indian), the walk in contact with nature was my inspiration to start the year - before it would have been a 2-hour round trip and at the end time no longer mattered.
The energy of the place is incredible, and the magnitude too. I must say that the feeling of being small compared to the width of the stone walls is uncomfortable. But, Índio took me and my family to different points on the trail to show us different angles of the waterfall that are little explored and how normal that discomfort is.
At the end of the tour, I drank the best sugarcane juice with pink lemon recommended by the Indian himself. I simply loved every second of Cachoeira da Fumaça, it was all good.
And, I swear, if you don't take this tour with Índio, you could run a serious risk of missing out on a good conversation, professional photos and a jackfruit palm heart cake with a cold beer at the end!

For me, the most beautiful landscape of Chapada Diamantina! It is amazing to look at the Fumaça waterfall gorge from above, with its immensity of 380 meters and its dry river flowing below.
It's worth the 6km trail (gentle) to get there and it's worth doing at any time of year, with or without rainwater, which makes the landscape more beautiful! Beautiful thing!!!

Incredible trail. Strenuous climb and consequently descent on the way back too. But the red lake and the impressive view make us forget all the effort. We went with a wonderful guide, I highly recommend it, Ramiro 71 99929611. He paces us, encourages us in difficult times, brings us coffee and cookies. And gives several tips about the region. Great.

The view is definitely worth the 6,65km trail walk. The first 2km probably the hardest ones uphill you will ever make. On the top you have vendors selling only juice and water, but you must take snacks and drinks to rest during the walk. However, do not fail to go.

Really nice hike! Took about 2-2.5 hours going (starting in Vale do Capao) up at a decent pace. The first hour is a pretty good climb so be prepared! You don't need a guide to do this. Download the trail on Maps.me and you'll be fine. It's pretty easy to follow the trail. There is just one trickier part, so make sure you have maps.me. You can also take a guide if you really want. They will probably carry snacks and/or lunch for you and show you something I didn't see?? Who knows! Do you. But definitely worth the hike! It's beautiful!

We want as a one day trip without a guide. The only thing to keep in mind is to keep right in the middle part of the trek.
Trek is nice and falls are spectacular. Definitely a must in Chapada de Diamantina.
It's possible as a one day trip from Lencois even without guide:
Get the 5 am bus to Palmeiras (10 R$). Arriving take the van to Vale de Capao (15R$). Tell the driver to get off at the trailhead. Walk 200m uphill to trailhead, here wait for the parkoffice to open at 8 am.
The trek should take no more than 6 hours all together, including time at the waterfall.
Getting back you can catch a van from Villa de Capao which is 20 min walk downhill. This will take you back the Palmeiras and from there to Lencois. Bus back will be at 11pm. So use time to chill in Capao.
Alternatively you can try to hitch a ride or ask around.
The easy option is to ask tours coming back is they can take you to Lencois. Bargain for price, but maximum should be 50R$.
This way you can make the trip on 50-75R$ one day from Lencois, easy half the price of a guide.

The fumaça trail is impressive. Fascinating walk starting with a nice steep hill stretch of 2-3 km and then a long highland walk until reaching a superb canyon and a little disappointing waterfall. The way back is easier but overall a great 5-6 hours of walking.

This is a nice hike in the mountains. We did it with our two kids aged 6 and 9 in about 2 hours one way. You do not need any guide or GPS or any other information to do it once you are at the start of it. There is only one single trail! (Only on the last meters where you can choose the side from which you look down at the waterfall there are several options, but you can see that once you are there). I do not understand the commentaries "difficult hike, take a guide, use maps me"...It is a hike though the mountains and not a stroll through the city. High heels or flip flops are not recommendet, but tennis shoes or sturdy sandals are fine. We also had to wade through a bit of water.

As an occasional hiker this was a very difficult trail. You start out going straight up for about an hour. Then another hour to a very average falls. If you like to hike go for it. If this is your first hike stay home. Make sure you take water and food and money as there are vendors selling water on the trail. Be careful coming down as some of the rocks are very slippery and I watched many people slip and fall. I wore proper hiking boots but many people wore sneakers and even flip flops. The entire trip took about 6 hours. I would not do it again and frankly was not that impressed with the falls.

Written April 24, 2017

Sabem informar a respeito? Irei com carro de passeio.
Written December 29, 2016
