Not only the lake itself is awesome but the road to this lake is enchanting. The winding road through tall pines is something out of fairy tale. The rolling grassy hills all around the lake cast a surreal and awe inspiring image in the waters. A MUST VISIT place for anyone going to Minimarg Pakistan.

Time stops at Rainbow Lake.
I think this is the best I can describe the mesmerizing beauty of this place. Located near Domel that is a village in the very far flung Minimerg Valley of Astor District, Rainbow Lake is a small lake but doesn't at all lack in beauty. Fed by freshwater streams from adjoining mountains, Rainbow Lake has crystal clear water that changes shades from turquoise to green during different times of the day.
The lake contains good sized brown trout and is popular amongst the trout anglers.
However, Rainbow Lake is not easily accessible. Minimerg Valley and Rainbow Lake can only be approached through 14500 ft high Burzil Pass that remains closed due to heavy snow 7-8 months in a year. One needs to coordinate lot of details before going to this area. Feasible times to visit Minimerg is June, July and August.
Despite all the traveling difficulties and coordination with military and police authorities that one undergoes for going to Rainbow Lake, it is worth the effort. Indeed a heaven on earth where time stops.

Rainbow lake is situated in Domel, Minimarg area of district Astore.

Have been here at least a dozen times. Indeed an incredibly beautiful sight. The lake, surrounding valley, mountains, lush green fields surrounding and facilities available at such a remote location are just amazing.
Only problem is you have to make prior arrangement for your visit. June-Sep are best time to visit but the coordination for access can be difficult being high security area close to Pak-India border (LOC).

Amazing place, amazing people, amazing weather (at least when I went in April).
Little caution: try to rent out a nice 4x4 as roads are not your friend; secondly, you can't enjoy the roadside view if you are driving. If going for the first time, I'd recommend to take a guide and always keep your identification proof on yourself.
