My experience exploring the Bale Mountains during the rainy season with our guide was nothing short of spectacular. Despite the weather, we had an unforgettable adventure thanks to our knowledgeable and attentive guide. Our guide sahlie beza was exceptional in navigating the challenges of the rainy season. Their extensive knowledge of the area and its wildlife enriched our journey, offering insights into the unique ecosystem and its inhabitants. June in the Bale Mountains can be rainy, but our guide ensured that we were well-prepared. They adjusted our itinerary to make the most of the weather windows, ensuring that we still had opportunities to explore and witness the beauty of the landscape between showers. Despite the rain, we were fortunate to encounter a variety of wildlife native to the Bale Mountains. Our guide's expertise allowed us to spot diverse bird species, and with luck, we caught glimpses of the endemic Ethiopian wolf and other mammals that thrive in the mountainous terrain. The Bale Mountains are stunning year-round, and even in the rainy season, the landscapes were breathtaking. We hiked through lush green valleys, past cascading waterfalls swollen with rain, and were treated to dramatic cloud formations swirling around the peaks. I highly recommend visiting the Bale Mountains with excellent trekking team during the rainy season for a memorable and rewarding adventure.highly recommend sahlie and discover simien tour sahlie.simien@gmail.com

I arrived from hawassa via Shasheme to Dodola which is closer than Dinsho. There there is a guide association that can organise for the next day a treck on the Dodola - treck wich is basically a trail with camps designed 20 years ago by some german guy. I just got food and a guide and we walked the mountains for 4 days, sleeping in bed in basic camps or at some familly's place. it can be more or less days, you can hire a cook or hoses. You ll look for your breath as this happens over 3000 meters but you ll get used quickly. Baboons, hyennas, white tail monkeyx and really nice endemic flora and trees . Ayano my guide was fluent in english and has encyclopeduc knowledge on the ebndemic species we walked through. contacts : i just arrived and f afternoon at the mountain bale hotel wich is more like a restaurant but where you can meet shibiru ( who speacks french) who can organise what you want for the next day. or you can try to contact them before : Shibiru : shebrumarifo2@gmail.com Ayano Abraham : +251 91 334 8375

We were there only two days but it was amazing. In Dinsho at the entrance of the park plenty of animals and next day we were on a car tour and saw Ethiopian Wolfe on the Sanetti Plateau and breathtaking forest on a way to waterfall in Harenna Forest. We were with Ibrahim guide: +251 91 225 5345 He was really cool guy and very good guide. We paid 3000 ETB / day for an entrance fees, his guidance and accommodation in his camping + 100 USD for a car tour.

We were in Ethiopia for two weeks and it was an incredible surprise. A wonderful country, rich in history, culture and extraordinary nature. We spent two unforgettable days in the Bale Mountains, where our Guide, Ebrahim +251912255345, was able to accompany us among the beauties of this place, explaining with kindness and competence the wealth of flora and fauna present. With him we also closely warned the very rare Ethiopian wolf and it was an experience we will never forget. The Bale Mountains deserved a few more days... We hope to return soon. Thank you Ebrahim!

Bale Mountain National Park had been on my list to visit for years, and is a gem of Ethiopia.

My guide Mohammed Worko a Dinsho Local, was extremely knowledgeable about the area in both the town and National Park. I was at the tail end of a longer trip, and opted for a cheaper budget and he was willing to work with on me on the price providing various options and itineraries. He also provided a tent and a sleeping bag which were much needed (waking up to frost on the ground in Ethiopia was very surprising).

The park is one of the most unique and incredible places I've been. Bale ranges from waterfalls, to valleys, forests, alpine plateaus and so much more. This is one of the places that displays the beauty and diversity of Ethiopia.

Seeing animals such as the wolf and nyala is amazing, but only scratching the surface of Bale. The unique ecosystems and environments make this place a must do not only in Ethiopia, but Africa and the world. The flora and funa here make it seem like you could be on another planet at times.

Besides our group and the rangers, it seemed as if I had the park entirely to myself. We trekked and camped by the Dinsho lodge and the Sodtota campsite, spending the night with the rangers. After this we drove to the Herena forest and the Plateau. I opted for a faster 3 day tour due to my time being extremely limited, but you could easily spend a week in this environment and still not see everything.

Mohammed is a great guide and I couldn't recommend him more. He was really accommodating and consistently provided me with information both prior to arriving in Dinsho and during the trip. I was in contact with him for a few months since arriving in South Africa and started traveling North.

We planned this trip in a small amount of time and Mohammed gave me the details on how I could travel from Hawassa in the south to Sheshemane and onto Dinsho. If you did not know Ethiopia. I would suggest flying into the airport and arranging private transport.

Mohammed can be reached at on +251913958802, and mohammed.worko13@gmail.com.

If you come to this part of the world and pass up this opportunity you will regret it. Bale is unspoiled and beautiful landscape that is a must visit. There are some many things here that you will never find anywhere else.

In February 2022 I did a 5-day tour in the Bale mountains. The nature is very impressive. We were able to see nyalas, wild wolves, monkeys, mole-rats and bushbucks. In the way we saw nomads riding their horses. We started in Dinsho and camped in a tent. The day temperature was very nice but at night it was minus 5 degree centigrade but fortunately we were sleeping in Alpine tents with very warm sleepingbags. The climbing at 4000 meters was sometimes not easy due to the high altitude, but step by step I made it. I recommend to bring pills for high altitude sickness.
The Bale Mountains are very beautiful because of the diverse volcanic landscapes and wild animals you encounter along the way.
We went out with a guide, cook, 3 horses carrying the luggage and 2 horse handlers. The guide, his name is Awol knows a lot about the area. He excellently organized all the materials we needed such as an alpine tent, good sleeping bags, a table, stools, etc.
He is a very knowledgeable and pleasant guide that I highly recommend.

Hussain, Aliyi, Shewa and the team gave their best to make the trip comfortable.

Weather was overall very good.

The horse riding to Rafu and Rafu itself was unforgettable.

Only hiccup was that the car was not in a good condition.

Great trip overall.

My daughter and I returned a few days ago from an amazing 6 days trek in South Eastern Ethiopia organized through Bale Mountains Eco Trekking.
Armaye is an excellent guide, very friendly, humorous and keen to meet everyone's expectations. His knowledge of the Bale Mountains is indisputable and he is keen to pass it on. Above all his great kindness, always attentive and responsive to our wishes. In addition, he is surrounded by a team of outstanding cooks and camp assistants. They can organize all the logistics of the trip including cook + kitchen staff + equipment carriers from camp to camp. The food was great, always excellent tea and coffee. Bale Mountains is a beautiful place, very varied landscapes far from the hustle and bustle of the cities, and we had the chance to see many birds and wildlife, it was a unique and great experience.
We were super happy to spot the Ethiopian Wolves and that was the highlight of our trip. All this couldn’t have been possible without the help of our guide and his team.
We ended the trek with a ride to Rira where we were able to admire the flora, very different from the other parts of the park as well as monkeys, precisely the bale monkeys. Then we returned to Dinsho. Wonderful memories. Thank you for everything!

The next day, we walked ( in the rain ) up onto the plateau and I learnt alot about the local people, customs, farming methods, conservation, and issues. We camped high on the plateau wonderful views and scenery walked across the plateau the following day in different areas saw lots of wildlife, waterfalls, plantlife camped in a beautiful spot overlooking a beautiful valley.
The final trekking day was long due to a side visit to a stunning lake but again the scenery was wonderful the last camp was with rangers who were undertaking conservation of the Ethiopian wolf.
The final 2 days were using a van to see the woodland areas and wildlife spotting.
What a great guide, please use him, you will be extremely well looked after.

My and my wife did 7 nights/8 days tour with Ahmed Alo from Bale Mountains Tours and it was an amazing experience. We trekked from the park HQ to Sanetti Plateau, then visited Harenna Forest and spent our last day in Sof Omar Caves. We really enjoyed the hiking and the nature, had a chance to see 4 out of the Bale big 5. From the very first moment we met Ahmed, we felt like we were in the best hands. Everything was very professional, the equipment he rented us (sleeping bags, tent and mattresses) was of a high quality so we were never cold at night. Chef Ali prepared the best meals which meant that we travelled with all the snacks we bought before the trek back to Addis. Ahmed and the whole team are very attentive to your needs. Everything is taken care of so you are in Bale just to enjoy the spectacular views, plants and animals and the entire mountain experience. Ahmed also knows how to get close enough to the animals without scaring them so you can enjoy seeing them from a short distance.

My partner and me hiked across the Bale Mountains for 10 days and were so happy to be guided by Mohamed, best tour guide (also best arabic football commentator :D) EVER. He has so much knowledge about wildlife, you can easily tell his job is his passion. Also great birding knowledge. Don't really get some of the reviews here: Yeah, hiking can be exhausting and nature can be windy and cold or sunburn you. What do you expect? Wildlife will not come to visit you in a five star hotel, you have to go wild for it :). And Bale will reward you: We saw the wolves, even pups, eagles, vultures, a serval cat, nyalas, warthogs, antilopes, mole rats, bale vervets, colobus monkeys, baboons and millions of endemic birds and plants. Mohamed definitely knows the all secret spots and was always eager to avoid the crowded areas which we really appreciated. I will never forget our funny evenings at the camp fire and Obsenet Lodge! Dema dema dema... Galatomi for everything Mohamed. I'd give SIX stars if I could!

We traveled, a family of five, a couple of parents and three teenagers, for three days in Bale mountain under the guidance of Mohammed. We started near Dinshu and saw many wild animals. The next day we went to the plato and got to see the red wolf. We climbed to the top of Tullu Dimtu. The next day we hiked through the magical rainforest and waterfalls in the area. Mohammed is an excellent guide and with a very broad knowledge and he is happy to share, he knows every stone and path. On the last evening he took us to a local family who taught us how to make injera. Mohammed is patient and pleasant and we highly recommend him. +251913958802

I had a perfect tour in Bali with breathtaking views and excellent hospitality. I was introduced to a variety of Ethiopian foods, taken to local eateries, and even had my wish granted to try Doro Wat. Being invited to the guide's home for coffee was a memorable experience.
I was also delighted when the guide shared the photos taken with their camera since I only had a smartphone. Please feel free to contact him!

We just came back from a long trip all over Ethiopia. Ethiopia is an amazing country with wonderful and beautiful people. We had with us the best guide ever, Ebrahim Ahmed Erdis, very polite, supportive, helpful and great company. We were feeling very safe during the whole trip. Ebrahim +251912255345 is also a great trekking guide (mountain machine) specializing in Bale mountains. Totally recommended.
