If you visit Bahrain and like to play golf be sure to add a round at the Awali Golf Club. I live here but easily recommend to anyone new to the island or visiting the island.
Awali golf club is the oldest (and best) sand course in the Middle East. It is a really well maintained course. If you haven’t played a sand course before it’s definitely something to add to your golfing experience. And if you have then still play as you will see why this club established in 1937 and home of the Bahrain Open is still going strong. The club house is friendly and has a pretty terrace overlooking the 18th brown and fairway and where you can also observe the tee off for the 10th. The bar prices are the most reasonable on the island. Ask for an ‘Awali Half’. One of their regulars best kept secrets. (It’s more like a 3/4 pint!). If you haven’t played a sand course before - you play your fairway shots off of an Astro turf mat (provided). The visitor day pass gives you all day access so you can play two rounds if you’ve got the stamina! But bring something to eat as only snack bars crisps and chocolate available. Check out the views from the 5th tee box!

Great golf club. Sand course. Friendly members with a nice bar and outdoor terrace. The oldest sand course in the Middle East. Established 1937. Well worth a visit and if you do make sure you don’t wear a hat in the clubhouse or you’ll have to ring the bell and buy everyone a drink! Best deal in the bar is the “Awali half”. 3/4 of a pint for the price of a 1/2 pint. 👍

Awali Golf Club is a sand course built by the oil pioneers over 75 years ago. A small club house provides refreshments, and can be lively after a competition. The course is interesting and for anyone who has not played golf on a sand course, where AstroTurf mats are used while on the fairway, it is a worthwhile experience. The greens are actually "Browns" with a mixture of sand and oil, swept by an attendant for each set of golfers to play on. All in all, a good course, good experience and good value.

It's an okay place to play golf and quite cheap however there is no grass and the "greens" are just sand. The driving range is pretty standard and so is the course however is quite interesting for someone who has yet to play on sand as you have to use an astro mat.
