Not tourist friendly
May 2018 • Family
place is beautiful but monks staying there are not tourist friendly. We entered monastery after taking permission from the monk standing outside but head monk and others sitting inside didn't approved of us entering the main building and asked us to leave. I am still figuring out why? when we didn't broke any of the rules written outside.Still thinking how can monks be prejudiced?

A Holy Sublime : In The Himalayas
Jan 2017 • Family
It takes quite a toll on the man and machine, by the time one reaches this Monastery, close to Gopalpur. A good 4x4 vehicle is recommended, though it is metalled for most of the route. There are hardly any sign boards, hence a local guide will save a lot of effort in terms of both "time and mileage". Once there, the serenity and divinity is all pervasive. The joy and happiness spread by the monks living there, only adds on to the ecstasy overwhelming you totally.

Photography is permitted everywhere at the DMI. However, there are no cafes, outdoor cafeterias, tea stalls or any other eatery anywhere close by. Visitors are advised to carry their own hot flasks with coffee/tea/milk and food. The toilet at the DMI for visitors is just "an emergency fixture" with NO water available. Hence children and women need to consider factoring this into their itinerary.

The fantastic view of the Himalayas snow packed peaks is breathtaking. There is a beautiful 'gurudwara" also coming up close to this monastery. Probably the hills are blessed with the numerous prayer flags enroute.

A must see for families travelling to Dharamsala. Divinity and Peace flooding all over.
