About
You visit the scenic Tamarin Waterfalls(away from traditional tourist routes), an area which can only be reached by our 4-wheel drive. Approaching from the South or West you see the pink pigeons, avery rare species. From well hidden view points you see breathtaking views over the Massif Central, the entire South-Eastern part of the island until far down to the wild South coast.

This Nature Trails tour has definitely been the highlight of our stay in Mauritius. My girlfriend and I highly recommend this tour to anyone who would like to discover the quiet and unknown side of the island. They replied our emails immediately, they picked us up on time and the guide was extremely knowledgable. The lunch at the local family was delicious and our host did everything to make us feel at ease. This excursion is definitely a must!!!

On our last day in Mauritius, we went around with Alain in his faithful Land Cruiser! We could see Mauritius from an angle we could have never seen as a normal tourists. With a GPS under his hat, Alain's continuously kept feeding us tid bits which we rarely see in the "official tourist websites". For example it came as a surprise to us that the vast majority of Mauritians are middle class and that they can hardly afford a return flight to Europe (it costs a bomb). So Reunion and Rodriquez are the favorite holiday destinations for the locals. Alain took us around 4 corners of the plateau that forms a large part of the island. We went up the second highest peak which was a steep 45 degree climb, effortless in the Land Cruiser (which has clocked 300,000 KMS + and is going strong). Alain organized a fantastic Indian vegetarian lunch at a host in Mauritius. There was a confusion about the costs however Ms Hannelore was magnanimous and sorted it out to our benefit. I would recommend Nature Trails if you wish to see the "other side" of Mauritius, the more beautiful side.

We spent our first and second day on the water. We both loves water, big catamaran and the peace and quite vibe when you are on the ocean and no crowds are around. Then we thought maybe we tried something else.
Seeing The Island from a different view. So we decided to do something that involves a lot of walking. Alain came on time. He is a very polite tourguide and he was born and raised there so he ofcourse has the best knowledge to offer us. We had the car for ourselves that time and Alain kept on telling us stories, histories, name of places and it made our trip very enjoyable. The trip were amazing. Make sure you wear proper clothing for traking/trailing such as earthy color, sport shoes and jacket to protect yourself from vicious deer flies LOL ( no blue color please ) . The lunch we had at a local house was nice too, the owner of the house was very nice. the tour with Alain is a must do, you will see Mauritius from a different point of view.

Tamarin falls was the most spectacular single attraction while other view points provided more broader landscapes across the island. Don't get me wrong, those were as good as the falls, if not better. Alain was great providing lots of information about the island and due to his fluent English skills it was very easy to discuss anything that came to our minds. Lunch at the local family was also nice. All in all, very nice day away from the crowds.

I was picked up by Alain sharp at 08:00 in the Toyota 4x4 for a bit of adventure. I did a south-west tour with 4 other people. We drove between sugar cane fields and over backroads only some people knew about or would dare to go over. But the views of the island were worth it. We saw places and had views most other visitors would never have. Alain was a mine of information, and as all the islanders I met, very friendly. He was fluent in French, English and German, so catered for everyone on the trip. Lunch was spent at a local Indian family, so we experienced a more typical living situation. This was followed by more off-road driving to places with incredible views of the island.

If you want to experience something more land-based that ocean-based, this is the trip to take. It's a full day and well worth it. But make sure you book in advance, places are limited!

My wife e-mailed this company to book a trip while we were in Mauritius between Sept 14th -------Sept 29th staying at the Silver Beach hotel. So far we have had no reply to our first e-mail and another which I sent last week.If they are no longer in business they should no longer be on Tripadvisor advertising their trips.

A really fabulous day out. If you want to see as much of Mauritius as is possible in a single day, in comfort with an excellent knowledgeable guide this is a trip not to be missed.
Nothing like your typical holiday excursion you are taken in Toyota Land cruiser off the beaten track onto private properties to views which you would never get to see otherwise.
We were very lucky and saw not only the rare pink pigeon but also the very rare Mauritian kestrel.
Lunch is in a private house and is simple but authentic and very tasty. My only concern would be if they took over 4 guests in the 4x4 (the e-mail we received said 1 - 6 persons). So check before you book. The weather for our day was a perfect Mauritian day with sun and occasional cloud making for excellent photography.

The tour was very interesting and the guide explanations were very good, he knew a lot of things about plants and animals and about the country history and he put a lot of interest in providing a good service, however I must say that once in Mauritius we did other tours with other agencies and the quality was very good as well but less than half the price, I recomend you to compare with other tour companies before choosing this one.

Dear Marimer40, We thank you for your feedback which we really appreciate and also for the positive comments regarding our level of service. Regarding your comments concerning the price, we would like to bring certain points to your attention and which you may have overseen when comparing with other providers. (1) Our excursion cannot be compared with other excursions as we are the only ones in Mauritius to offer this type of excursion in which we include explanations on plants, the local nature, general infos on the island and stunning viewpoints. You have certainly researched the internet before booking our excursion and have for sure not found any other provider offering such an excursion. (2) We have, after years of experience, positioned ourselves on the upmarket segment of the excursion service providers targeting only demanding clients looking for and expecting a high level of service and as you have certainly noticed during the tour, we bring our clients to lots of viewpoints situated on private properties where no other providers like taxis or busses have access. (3) We offer to our clients the exclusive possibility to visit a Mauritian house and thus have the possibility of tasting a freshly prepared home made typical Mauritian meal which is definitely not of the same quality offered in a restaurant during a "normal taxi" tour. (4) Unlike unfortunately quite a few local providers offering cheaper rates as they are operating without proper licences and insurances, we at Nature Trails Ltd. are officially and legally registered tour operator with the Tourism Authority. Our clients are extensively covered with the relative insurances should any problem arise while on tour. You will easily understand that the costs of offering such coverage are quite significant. Regards Hannelore & Alain

The views when we got there were stunning we hired a car during the break and found it although a bit expensive, worth it, because we got to see such a lot of Mauritius. A lot of waterfalls lush countryside but if you want the best of these areas be prepared to go on a hike.

Hello, we are happy, that you have enjoy our nature trails tour, also when you where expected longer walks. But I write always in my description that there are small walks from 10-15 min not longer to our viewpoints. But for this year we got from tripadvisor the "Certificate of Exellence" for the year 2015 :-) :-) for our Nature Trails tour :-) :-). Best regards Hannelore & Alain

This will be my last review base on the fact that TripAdvisor wants me to give a lot of information when I do not want to give this.
People can make their own mind up base on what they read and what people rank the activity or accommodation.
