We visited with our two under-six children who had a good time in the small play area outside. The gingerbread for sale was very good and clearly made on-site rather than mass produced junk.
Hot drinks are served with a little Australia shaped gingerbread biscuit which is a nice tasty touch.
We also had a slice of Tim tam cheese cake which was good but not fantastic.
One of us ordered a hot chocolate which was disappointing and tasted like supermarket chocolate powder in hot water.
We’d probably go again if passing through town but not if our kids were older (or if we didn’t have any).

Hi, thanks for taking the time to review our business and the positive comments.
Sorry you didn’t enjoy the hot chocolate. We use Cadbury’s hot chocolate and hot milk so unsure why it tasted like water.
Whenever you’re not enjoying something you should always speak with management or the owners, we all want to ensure everyone enjoys what they ordered and would love to resolve any issues straight away.

We stopped in here after driving by many times. There's lots of photo ops, and we saw quite a few other people taking their pictures near the entrance, given that the building itself looks like an actual gingerbread house. The inside is also decorated in line with this is well.
There's a wide range of lollies, quite a few of which I'd never seen elsewhere. The site also has a cafe with coffee & cakes, and seating indoors and out, plus a children's play area.

Called in for a coffee fix and something to eat, very disappointed, unless you liked biscuits and limited cakes not a lot for you. Purchase a couple of. Takeaways and off we went, had to wait till Bunbury for the food.

When you walk in there is wall to wall of lollies and chocolates, plenty of gingerbread, there's always at least 14 cake choices as well as muffins, croissants, toasted sandwiches, pies and sausage rolls. Did I mention they are all baked on site by a small family business!!
Not sure what you "imagined" to find in a Gingerbread House, but we've created a unique business that brings a smile to the faces of both young and old, and it's a shame you expected something else.

My husband and friends read reviews of this place and looked forward to our visit. We thought the house would actually look like a gingerbread house but it was just a brown building. It was very crowded and cakes twice the price of a fabulous bakery we went to the day before. Inside are several rooms for children parties and activities. Don't bother going unless you have children and want to spend a lot money.

Thanks for the feedback. What a shame you didn't see the positives of our shop. Not sure what your expectations were for a gingerbread house but we painted it brown to match gingerbread. This lovely old house house has been decorated with lollies, candy canes, lights, candy poles and even icing on the windows. You visited during school holidays and as we are a tourist attraction, there were crowds. We only have one room dedicated for kids parties (and large groups for high teas), the other two rooms are designed for adults, such as the Sitting Room which is a child free zone. All of our cakes are made on site and are the same price as other cafes in the area. If you can find cafe style cakes from $3 you should go there all the time or query where it was made. Hopefully if you visit again you will see our shop and all our hard work with an open mind, open heart and maybe even release your inner child :)

We paused here on our journey for a caffeine pick me up. What passed for coffee was lukewarm tasteless milk. Yuk. Forgot to put coffee beans in the machine? The garden and playground? looked tired and uninviting.I had a pie which was edible but nothing special. My friend said that his carrot cake was ok. A huge array of lollies and novelties to purchase. The young staff were smiling and pleasant. The drive through coffee pop up over the road was doing a roaring trade so I will stop there next time.

Visited on a Saturday afternoon and was very disappointed. Waited ages for order to come and when it did the coffee was served in takeaway cups! To top it off the coffee was undrinkable - we left most of it behind as we walked out in disappointment. Lollies were OK though.

Hi Jamie T, We have tried to contact you but to no avail. We are very disappointed that you didn't have a good experience at The Gingerbread House in the first month of opening. Since then we have made some huge changes and would love for you to visit again and to see for yourself. We would like to offer you a free coffee and cake on your next visit. Hope to see you soon :)

This is our first visit, the shop is well stocked with lollies, and a selection of cakes.
The coffee is disgusting, time to invest in a good coffee machine! We don't mind paying $4.50, but this just isn't worth it.
My friend has younger kids, who after eating a lot of sugary cakes and buying a drink, requested a glass of tap water, this was REFUSED!!! We were offered a bottle of water to buy!!! Not good.

Hi Leanne,
I'm so sorry to hear about your experience at our shop.
We have asked our staff to give water when requested by guests who have ordered drinks and cakes, so I'm sorry this didn't happen.
With regards to the coffee, it is an expensive coffee machine and one that is serviced regularly and set to a medium strength coffee. We also use a top brand of coffee beans. We make approx 300 coffees per week and have very minimal complaints or coffees left. Coffee is the toughest drink to satisfy everyone and we hope that anyone who isn't enjoying their coffee to let us know immediately so we can resolve any issues and make a fresh coffee to their liking.
We would love to have you visit again and would like to offer you a free coffee and cake on your next visit (to your liking of course).

Dropped by The Gingerbread House on the way down to Margaret River. The owners Julie Shadbolt and James Earley are a friendly, welcoming couple. Lots of yummy goodies to try and buy. Great to see a new business in a country town which will assist other associated business!

Being called the Gingerbread House, you would expect the place to be filled with it! Mainly just lollies, Very saddened to arrive approx 9:50 am only to be told They werent opened yet as they werent set up (what a few tables and chairs and flags to be put up) As tourists with a buy day planned we went on our way, and then made this our last stop back to our accommodation that evening. Shouldnt have bothered really. Rather dissappointed!!

Hi Donna and Kim,
Prior to opening we have to set up outside which is not a quick job. Apart from setting up and cleaning the furniture, there are large flags and heavy shade umbrellas that are stored inside the shop. For the safety of our customers, we do this prior to opening and cannot have people coming into the shop while we're doing this.
With regards to us being called the Gingerbread house, it's a lovely old house filled with all things sweet so why not be called that. We do have freshly made gingerbread, sets to decorate gingerbread, gingerbread cupcakes and plenty of other ginger products.
Please keep in mind when reviewing small businesses, there's people that work very hard to make their business succeed and are "having a go". We're sorry you didn't have a great experience and hope one day you will revisit and see our wonderful shop in a different light.

Nice place, food ok though a little pricey. $12 to decorate 2 small gingerbread cookies. Cookies were too strong in ginger.
