Cancelled day trip from Jersey to Guernsey
Aug 2019
I had booked on Manche Iles Express to go to Guernsey from Jersey for a day trip. I received a text message the night before saying the ferry had been cancelled due to 'adverse weather'. Turned out it was a bit windy on the day. While I accept that these things happen, I thought the text message was quite poor; there was no number to call if you had any questions about the cancellation, like getting a refund for example or changing the date of the trip. Nothing. There was no-one at the ferry terminal to ask either. I booked via Direct Ferries and am now facing the battle of getting a refund. I will wait to write a review about them pending the outcome, if they ever respond to my enquiry. The day trip cancellation put quite a downer on the holiday but lesson learned...I will fly next time.

Good morning, We understand your dissatisfaction with the cancellation of the crossing due to bad weather conditions. The decision on the weather was made as soon as possible in order to have the best information. Our offices are open during opening hours, we unfortunately can't be open to a wide range. As you mentioned, you have booked and paid with Direct Ferries. It's up to them to repay. We let you contact them if needed.

Missing informations - homepage
Jun 2019 • Solo
There is no information on the homepage how to take a bike with you and whether a stay on an outdoor deck is possible. I tried to find out a mail address to ask this and found none. If you choose the contact page, you can see an envelope, but you can't click it. Unfortunately, my english and french is not good enough for telephone calls

Good afternoon, the information about the transport of the bikes is available when you book on our website, from the first step. The contact form works well, click on the envelope (it works, we have just done a test at the moment) and the email address info@manche-iles.com appears on the same page. Regarding ships, all information is available in the "Company" tab with photos. We remain at your disposal for any further information.

We made two day trips from Jersey on the Victor Hugo, the first to Sark and the second to Guernsey. We arrived early for the first trip and went through security. We eventually had a tannoy message informing us boarding would close in 5 minutes. Everyone went out on to the pier to be told to go back inside as boarding had not commenced. The trip to Sark was uneventful except for difficult boarding and landing for the less mobile of us. The second trip to Guernsey was different again. Almost before we left the harbour entrance passengers were being sick and it was a very bumpy crossing. The crew were amazing and deserve a medal for what they had to do. Fortunately the return trip was much smoother. Perhaps a trolley service for drinks and snacks especially for the elderly and disabled might be useful. The aisles are wide enough

Hello, thank you for your feedback on the crossings you made with our Company. The port of Sercq is atypical and we make every effort to make landing / boarding as easy as possible. The stewardess/stewards are available at the shop for the sale of duty free products and snacking. Our crew is at your disposal during your crossing. They can of course come to meet you and help you. We remain at your disposal for any further information. We hope to see you very soon :)

Ferry left without us 3 hours early!
May 2018 • Family
We visited Alderney for what essentially was a single day trip with overnight stay, as we arrived in the afternoon, and the tickets return time was 5pm the following day, we though we could get some sightseeing done the following day. We hired bikes and rode around the Island on the day of departure only to find when we arrived at the ferry terminal 1.5 hours before our ticket departure time, the port was deserted! I then checked my phone and a text message pinged in, saying they would be leaving early, I only recieved the text whilst I was on the Dock!

We had to buy tickets for flights home, which tripled the cost of our day trip, and I emailed the ticket office, and was promised to have the flights refunded, and despite about 10 emails and several phone calls have received NOTHING!

The most disgusting customer service I have ever seen!!!

Dear Gareth, We exchanged together by email about your claim. We would like to remind you that the procedure to inform us of your complaint has not been respected. An invoice made by you has been sent by email without proof. As indicated in the general conditions of sale, the claims and supporting documents must be sent by registered mail with acknowledgment of receipt to the registered office of the Company. Despite these elements, we agreed to cover your expenses. We are still waiting for receipts to make the refund.

Truly Dreadful Service - AVOID
Aug 2018 • Family
I was informed 5 days before myself and my family of 5 travelled with this company from Jersey to Sark the service was cancelled “indefinitely” because the ferry had broken down. I was refunded but incurred around 350 pounds of expenses since I had to travel to Guernsey, stay overnight and then catch the ultra reliable alternative ferry company from Guernsey to Sark. And this company refuses to refund me my costs!! Only after speaking to residents on Sark did I realise everyone avoids using the service because it is so unreliable.

Our ship experienced a breakdown which forced us to cancel the departures from Jersey to Sark. As you mentioned, we warned you as soon as possible (5 days before the departure) to allow you to find an alternative solution. We have responded personally to your complaint by reminding you of our general conditions of sale and transport. We are at your disposal if you need further information.

Disappointment
Jul 2018 • Couples
I advice go to England and from there to Jersey!!!!

We are Finnish couple and mer extra large amount of problems with this company! No refund from all suffer!!

One day before we got info about cancellation. We had to drive early at 6 oclock 80 km from Carteret to Granville because Carteret ferry was cancelled and we booked long ago a nice hotel in Carteret next to harbour.

Then we missed one day from time travelling back to Finland because we didnt get away from Jersey on 14.7. to Granville. Again ferry broken.

Information was extra late and poor.

We had booked overnight beforehand in France and were charged for that too.
Overnight was in Grand hotel Jersey. Our room was doublebooked. Somebody came to our room with own key. We went to complain about it and noticed our key card didnt match to door anymore. Receptionist beg us to complain to ferry company. But they didnt pay any attention to any crazy cases.

We had to stay one More day in Jersey and need to buy new clothes on Sunday. Just few expensive shops were open. Needed clothes cause all were in car in France. It was very hot days.

Late in the evening we came finally to France but St Malo. The crazy buss driver lady was 30 min late. People was standing beside bus in cold. At midnight we finally arrived to Granville very slowly driven.
At midnight we arrived to hotel instead of all nice expectation we had.

Why they cant bring ferries from other harbours in all numerous cases this companys ferries go broken???

Madam, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by the damage of our ship which caused the cancellation of the crossing for technical reasons. We offered you an alternative solution with a departure from Granville, which you accepted. Concerning the problems encountered with your hotel room in Jersey, we invite you to contact them directly. Regarding your return, we have made your repatriation as soon as possible and conditions. In accordance with the general conditions of sale and transport, we have respected our commitments We wish to inform you that it is much more complicated than you think to have other ships in replacement. We need authorizations, permits, that it is in concordance with the harbor infrastructures, ... We thank you for your understanding, and we renew our sincerest apologies.

Went to gainville with the company . Boat left on time for both journeys , staff were courteous and professional . Importantly there were enough to ensure that services were provided with minimal queuing unlike some other ferry companies

Never Again
Aug 2018 • Friends
Went on Manche Isles on a day trip from Jersey to Guernsey. The weather was good and sea calm.
However within 5 minutes of leaving St Helier, the boat was literally like being on a corkscrew. It rolled and the front was literally tipping out of the water.
The majority of the passengers were sick, with many so shaken up that they were in tears when the boat arrived in Guernsey.

Will not use this company again

Good afternoon, You indicate that the sea was calm but that the ship was literally tipping out of the water. Our ships may be subject to unpleasant movements when the sea is unfavorable. Our priority is to ensure the safety of ships, passengers and crew. We hope to see u soon onbard

Unreliable - not operated for 5 weeks but still selling tickets
Aug 2018 • Family
Just a quick note of caution to anyone thinking of booking a ferry with Manche-iles. It is worth checking prior to booking or travelling if the ferry is actually running.

We booked 4 weeks is advance Sark to Jersey. On the day of travel someone in the hotel mentioned the ferry hadn't operated for weeks. I checked their webiste and there was no information but tickets were still being sold. The hotel owner and I kept calling them and eventually they answered and confirmed the ferry wasn't operational and hadn't been for 5 weeks. I asked why we hadn't been informed and the Manche- iles lady at Guernsey ferry port simply replied there is to many customers to contact. I emailed a complaint and they didn't respond.

Smaller option for getting to Jersey
Aug 2018 • Friends
We used this ferry for a two day side trip from Normandy to Jersey. It worked out in the end, but it was not uneventful. Here are some thoughts and information to help other travelers:

-- This service uses a smaller ferry boat and is more risk for canceling due to bad weather than Condor going from St Malo ( I only know this by watching actual port info, I have not traveled on Condor)
-- The port in Granville takes long time to print boarding passes and pass passport control. We arrived an hour before and it was barely enough to get to the boat before departure
-- The website and twitter accounts are useless for determining cancellations (unlike Condor)
-- Their second boat (doing smaller trips) seems to be in dock and there are a lot of cancellations on smaller trips in Aug 2018.
-- You can check for cancellations about day in advance on Jersey's port arrival/departure website
-- On trip to Jersey, the weather was rough and by the end of the trip about 30% of the passengers were sick. The crew was helpful in assisting them in respective and cheerful way, but I could not help thinking that a bigger boat with stronger A/C would have been more comfortable in these conditions. For the return trip the weather was calm and experience was pleasant.

Good afternoon, - If we cancel for weather reasons it is to ensure the safety of the ship, crew and passengers. - Passengers must arrive 1 hour before departure, for the control of ID and give you boarding cards and other vouchers. This time is done to record all passengers - In case of cancellation, we warn each passenger individually - Both vessels have the same characteristics - Our ships have had technical problems, but both are in service - Traveling at sea when the climate is unfavorable can be stressful, unpleasant or even risky for people with fragile health. We assure you that the sea is beautiful many days in the year and our passengers are not sick :) Seasickness depends on everyone. We hope to see you again soon on board to discover the Channel Islands!
