The original temple of Govind Devji, built by Man Singh I of Amber, in 1590 AD. The idol is now at Mandir Shri Govind Devji, Jaipur. It is an ASI-protected monument, and entry is free.
Hewn out of red sandstone, the edifice is a beautiful example of Hindu temple architecture. It is articulated as a three-story high structure on the outside while the interiors are triple-height and grand.
Observation: A similar workmanship is observed in the contemporary Mughal monuments of Fatehpur Sikri.

Folklore tells that every time this temple was built there was a invader who destroyed. Mohammed ghazni, sultan of delhi, and finally aurangzeb. each time this was built again to be destroyed. The last temple was lit with lamps and the light used to travel all the way to Agra. Aurangzeb, jealous of this beauty tried to destroy it. once the top 4 towers of this 7 layer temple was razed, the soilders felt the earth shaking and ran away. The original idol has since been shifted to rajasthan, but the ruins of the temple gives you an idea of the past glory. Too many monkeys around. be careful of spec and food items/bags.

I went there on 12th Feb 2014 via Yamuna Expressway. A new road has been constructed recently from Yamuna Expressway to Vrindavan which has cut short the journey by about 8-10 Km. The Exit to vrindavan is about 11 Km from Mathura toll point.

As i have mentioned in my other reviews about Vrindavan,

Firstly, one needs to take care of their belongings due to the "MONKEY MENACE" there so keep all your valuables hidden and even your spectacles should be kept inside till you enter the temple as monkeys tend to snatch it too.

Secondly, the roads are narrow and there is sanitation problem there too, so park your vehicle at the taxi stand and take rickshaw from there to all the temples for about Rs 10-15 /-.

The architecture of this temple is worth viewing, it was almost destroyed by Aurangzeb. The original deities were removed and shifted to Banke Bihari Temple before aurangzeb destroyed its top 4 floors.

Photography is prohibited as in all the other temples.
Pay 1 rs to guard to protect your footwear from the monkeys and enjoy this temple.

govind Devji temple at Vrindavan was built by Raja Mansingh I 1590. Temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna. Red sand stones were used to build this temple and is known for finer architectural details. Originally this temple had 7 floors. Later top 4 floors were destroyed by Muslim King Aurangazeb when he came to power. We see now the remaining 3 floors. Fearing Aurangazeb, the main deity was removed and sent to Jaipur. The place is worth visiting.

This temple is not the typical crowded type that you see everywhere else ! However it has its own charm ! Monkeys which are seen all across Vrindavan are here too in large numbers but only come running if they see food bags carried openly and sometimes spectacles ! Because local shopkeepers advise visitors to buy Frooti and other cold drinks and give them, in exchange for the stolen specs, to the monkeys , the monkeys have learnt the trick of getting something to drink and eat from visitors !

Govind dev ji temple is one of the ancient and historical temples in and around Vrindavan. This temple was built by Raja Man singh during 1590. He used Red sand stones to build this temple. Govind dev ji temple is known for its architectural beauty. Lord of the temple is Shri Krishna. Originally the temple had 7 floors when completed. Later during the rule of Emperor Aurangzeb, it was destroyed to 3 floors and what we see is the remains.

On fearing, the main deity Govind Dev ji was removed from this temple during the destruction by Aurangzeb and sent to Jaipur to keep it safe. The temple has intricate architectural beauty and it is worth spending some time here.

This temple is very old one, but I don't understand the reason why it's very less crowded. When we reach to this temple it was almost 12 noon, but no body was there except us. Its very near to rangji temple, you can combine both the temple together. Idols of mandir are little for of but since no crowd is there you can take ample time to see and get darshan.
