Absolutely amazing place! We visited at night for the sunset and night walk, then returned the next morning for the permaculture tour. The sunset was beautiful with views of the ravine and lake. People were sitting on the lawn having drinks while kids were playing. The whole place has a wonderful, relaxed vibe. The permaculture tour was the highlight of our trip to Monteverde - what they are creating there is really awesome. We are a middle-aged couple traveling with college-aged children and we all thoroughly enjoyed the tour.

We had such a great overall experience at the Valle Escondido. We visited for the night tour. We were glad to have transportation provided by the Preserve because driving into the preserve was a little tricky due to a one-lane section. A bonus is watching the sunset over the Gulf of Nicoya from the preserve’s large reception area, which seemed to be part of the Monteverde Inn. The night tour was my wife’s and my son’s favorite part of our visit to Monteverde. Thanks to the top notch work of our guide, Eduardo, we saw tarantulas, leaf cutter ants, a tree frog, a toucan, and learned a lot about the vegetation. The tour was just the right length, and we think the private tour was worth the added expense since Eduardo was able to focus on our interests and take it ar our pace. We appreciated that they rearranged our return transportation so we could have dinner at the Monteverde Inn, on the veranda. We also liked our park poster souvenirs.

Found this spot by accident. Nice local birds with well thought out trails. $15 at sunrise his writing for trail access. Beautiful overlooks and a perfect sunset spot all to yourself. Food and bathrooms are available.

The preserve is gorgeous! You can easily walk the whole trail system quickly or take your time and savor each unique point along the way. Beautiful vistas of the valley, waterfalls, and cozy resting spots abound. It’s clear that a lot of thought, care, and hard work went into creating such a special place. Reward yourself with a drink and bite to eat at the restaurant afterwards!

A working permaculture farm. Makes the stay so much more interesting than a reality or hotel. Amazing view. Great food.

I went to this preserve as I could walk there from my hotel and the entrance fee was $15, while entrance to Monteverde Cloud Forest was $25 and I would have had to take a bus or shuttle to get there.

I walked around the perimeter of the preserve which was approximately 1.5 miles. The trail was in good shape and a decent workout due to the numerous steep sections. I was disappointed I did not see more wildlife, as I only saw birds, butterflies and several coatis. But I really enjoyed the scenery and the serenity, as I only saw one couple the entire hike.

The staff and service at Senda Monteverde was great. The cabins were comfortable, and the property was gorgeous and very well located, immersed in nature and the cloud forest. The food was exceptional. The added bonus was that Senda is right beside the fantastic Aguti Reserve, home to incredible tree formations and cloud forest vegetation, offering a wonderful hike. When we went, we were the only ones there. Complete privacy surrounded by nature.

We were staying onsite so we were able to walk the trails multiple times during our stay at the inn. If you coming from elsewhere, you may want to precede your self-guided tour with either a permaculture tour in the morning or follow it with a night tour. There is also a cafe on site if you plan to spend the whole day here. Note: Valle Escondido and Hidden Valley are the same.

If you have the time and energy, you can hike down to a platform near the bottom of the waterfall. There are many stairs, so be prepared.
