My wife and I went on a full day private ride with Fabio as our guide. Marvin picked us up at our hotel and drove us to his farm just out side of town. We have both done a fair bit of riding over the course of our lives. Our full day "cowboy" ride took about 6.5 hours and wound through gorgeous high rolling ranch country with views out to the Nicoya Peninsula. We covered a lot of territory with thousands of feet of elevation changes. For part of the ride you have to travel on the main road in this area which sees all kinds of traffic from buses to motorcycles to kids on bikes. Our horses were rock solid through it all including badly behaved dogs trying to ambush us out in ranch country. I couldn't have greater respect for our Costa Rican mounts and for the job Marvin has done with them. Fabio was the perfect guide.....all in all a day to remember for years to come

A ride with Marvin is a great experience for beginners as well as for more experienced riders. The horses are very well trained (western style) and, most important, well taken care off.

Every single animal (horse or mule) is easy and comfortable to ride and basically nothing can scare them (cars, motorcycles, trucks, dogs, heavy machines, etc.). For me, as an experienced rider and used to the English style of horseback riding, it was a joy to feel how well the horses respond to small signals. For me it was the first time to ride on a mule (Madona) and I was surprised: It was joy to ride her!

For beginner riders these steady horses provide a safe and enjoyable ride through the beautiful landscape of Monteverde. Before the ride, Marvin explains how to handle and shows how to ride the horses. He truly loves his horses (his 'babies') and that shows!

A very personal and enthusiastic tour!

Marvin takes great care of his horses and pays a lot af attention to them. This will make you feel comfortable right from the start. For my boyfriend it was his first time up on a horse and Marvin knew how to make him feel confident and at the end of our 2,5 hour tour he really got the hang of it. Doing this tour in the beautiful scenery of Monteverde makes it a great adventure. Definitely one of our best experiences in Costa Rica!

Visited for a 2.5 hrs trek with our holiday guide Allan Fallas from G Adventures. I haven't ridden for 20 years and my daughter, who was in our group, has never ridden. Our guide Fabio was fantastic, patient, informative and has
completed converted my daughter - she loved her experience and can't wait to go riding again!

Would have no hesitation in recommending Horse Trek if you want to experience riding whether you are are new to riding or an experienced rider.

Pura vida !

By far the best tour I’ve ever been on (and I’ve traveled a bit..)!! Marvin’s passion for his horses and his area is so true and strong that it is palpable and contagious. He is very generous with his time and knowledge and seem to only care about sharing happiness!! His horses are the most well behaved well trained I’ve had the chance to ride. Although we were delayed by rain, Marvin went way out of his way to make sure I had the best possible experience and saw the most stunning vistas! My only disappointment is that I had to leave, otherwise I would have spent much more time riding with these guys, which are, I am absolutely sure, the absolute best in the area!!

Marvin is an absolute character, so many laughs and he puts you at ease straight away around his horses. If you know anything about horses you will recognise the natural horsemanship skills Marvin has. We are experienced riders and he matched us perfectly with our horses and allowed us to canter even with less experienced people in the group. He only takes a small number of people at a time. The horses were very responsive and are neck reigned, so you will be ridding western style. Marvin includes a few stops where you get off the horse to stretch your legs and to give the horses a break and to take in the stunning views. We finished off the day with a beautiful sunset and tequilas all round. I have done a few treks in Chile, Argentina, Peru and New Zealand and this by far is the best overall experience I’ve ever had. Go with Marvin you will not regret it!

We had a great experience with Horse Trek Monteverde. Our family of four took the 2.5 hour Mountain and Farm views ride. Janet responded to our inquiry within an hour and we were able to book for the next morning. Marvin led a great tour, first introducing us to the newest member of the farm, a 9 day old foal. We had a great time learning how to ride Western style, enjoying the gorgeous views and seeing so many cows, horses and birds. Marvin was very good with our kids (ages 11 and 13) and also very friendly and personable. I appreciated that he took some photos of our family as well. The surroundings are breathtaking — I am so glad we booked Horse Trek Monteverde and would recommend it to family and friends.

My wife and I spent a little over two weeks together in Costa Rica. We visited Monteverde, La Fortuna (Arenal), and Manuel Antonio. The best day, by far was spent with Marvin at Horse Trek. If someone were to offer me one day to do anything I wanted to do in Costa Rica, I would choose to spend the day with Marvin. Our experience was almost indescribable and anything I have to say will not do it justice. The scenery was superb. From hilltop vistas to time in the valley dipping our feet in a flowing river, Marvin provides an experience that surpassed my expectations. It was so cool to see the variety of butterflies in their natural environment. I absolutely loved the experience. Other horse-riding experiences simply do not compare, and I think that is largely due to how Marvin cares for his horses. The horses are well cared for and obviously loved. They are healthy and easily connect with new riders. If you are in the St. Elena/Monteverde area, I highly recommend Horse Trek.

My wife is an inexperienced rider and has not ridden for many years so she had some trepidation as to how she would cope with a long ride over difficult terrain. However the brilliant and entertaining Marvin made it an enjoyable and relaxing trip. It’s well designed too with a short walk half way to stretch the legs.
Very good all round.

I was really keen to do this ride but my husband was very apprehensive as the first and last time I persuaded him to try riding was 20 years ago and he had a bad experience. But Marvyn was fantastic with him - explaining everything very clearly and looking out for him all the way and inspiring confidence. And the horses were incredibly well trained and did exactly what you asked them to. So we ended up having a fantastic time. The views were spectacular - which I think is a real benefit of choosing to ride with Marvyn as the land he rides on is so well situated. We rode down into a valley and spent some time by a small waterfall paddling our feet in the water and Marvyn showed us some beautiful old trees as well. He really cares about making sure you have a great time. So if you are a beginner you need have no fear of trying this ride. But there are other options for more experienced riders and with such lovely responsive horses I’m sure Marvyn’s place would be a great choice for riders all abilities.
