Description:

The Koekelberg Basilica ranks fifth among the world's largest churches,...

The Koekelberg Basilica ranks fifth among the world's largest churches, after the Basilica of Notre-Dame de la Paix in Yamoussokro on the Ivory Coast, St Peter's in Rome, St Paul's in London and Santa Maria Dei Fiori in Florence.Today, the church is in the first place a place of prayer for peace. The church is still used for celebrations of the parish or for big national celebrations. But the basilica is more than that. The basilica has also an important cultural function. It’s a magnificent Art Deco monument, there are two museums, there are yearly different expositions and you can enjoy a wonderful view over Brussels!

... A big disappointment inside. We came on a Monday morning, it felt deserted, and school children were doing doing gym class on the stairs in front of the Basilica, and while not Christian, I find it inappropriate. Some tourist come here to view the city below - and that's probably all there is to it. As you can see in... More

The Basilica is not very old.We had originally not planned to visit the Basilica. We first went to the Atomium for the view. But it was really crowded and there was a long queue..so we skipped. When we were at the view point near Palais de Justice,we noticed Basilica far on the horizon.Since we were still longing for a view of the... More

Not a real old church as far as Europe goes so lacking the ton of memorials and old burials but the view from the top is worth the small extra admission. Some museums inside of art but closed on Sunday mornings. Wonderful contemporary stained glass, sort of an art deco church. Go for the view and enjoy a nice older... More

Im not sure why I have missed this gem in my trips to Brussels but it is definitely a must see. On a good day the walk from Elizabeth to the Basilica (which is amongst the 10 largest in the world ) would be beautiful but on a rain soaked day the bus stops outside the Metro Station. The view... The building style of this church reminds me of the comic Batman and the buildings in Gotham. Very squarish and monumental. It's not an ugly church if you like this type of architecture but not my kind of a church.

It looks like Byzantine rather than Western-style church. But the atmosphere inside does not allow doubt that it is the Catholic Church

Beautiful from the outside and inside, unique in Brussels! Furthermore, you have the opportunity to take the elevator to the top (for around 5 €) and have an Arc-de-Triomphe like view from above, but the light version! If you spend some days in Brussels, definitely stop by!

One of its kind in Brussels, this one is quite different from other churches in Brussels, entrance is free, only if you wanna get on top of tower then you need to buy a ticket, otherwise feel free to roam around.

Beautiful church overlooking the city below. Easy to get to from the Elisabeth subway station. Walk through the park to get to it. Take the elevator to the top of the church for a panoramic view...totally worth it!!!
