We parked just before the museum and headed up the blue trail which has lots of information boards. It's a lovely walk and very interesting. The only problem is that there is absolutely no signposting so you have to guess if you're going the right way. At one point, we came to a choice between a locked gate over a catwalk or a 20m dark tunnel. Thinking neither was passable, we turned back. In fact, if you go through the tunnel you cross the river to the other side and catch the return path there. Just one arrow or notice would have helped! We took the path up to Giano on the way back and enjoyed the return journey, except for having to take the road because the trail was blocked off. We're experienced walkers but waymarking paths surely isn't too much to ask for? Recommended but take a walking map with you - if you can find one. Your mobile phone won't help!

Allow two hours for the walk up this gorge and back. You walk alongside a stream and we saw brightly coloured lizards, dragonflies and some interesting ruins from the paper-making industry here.

Lovely interesting walk up the valley. Easy walking so suitable for most. Lots of interesting information signs that bring the area to life. Signs are in Italian German and English. Scenery is beautiful and the old industrial paper mills make this walk so informative. There is a museum on site too which I didn't visit but looks good. Cost is 6 euro. You won't be disappointed with this walk.

Very pleasant walk on a gravel road. Quiet and refreshing. Easy walk from Toscolano Maderno. Within a few minutes walk you are surrounded by nature.

Who knew this great museum is 'hiding' near Lake Garda! What a wonderful experience, driving up with a car and then walking around 500 meters to the museum in this green, beautiful scenery. Nice little bar, great for ice cream or cafe :) , together with a nice gift shop. Very interesting museum to visit. Highly recommended!

I've been to this area multiple times but this was my first time to the Valle delle Cartiere. I was fascinated by the rain forest, mountains and tunnels. I did not go to the museum but will save this for another trip. The trenino that got me there was a one hour scenic ride for 3 euros, one of the best bargains in all of Italy. The "engineer" was very pleasant.

The walk up to the museum is beautiful in itself. It's worth it just for the stroll. The museum is very informative about the production of paper and they did demonstrations. They have multilingual staff and all the exhibition is translation in Italian, English and German. We were very lucky to have a wonderful member of staff provide us with a live translation of an Italian presentation of the ancient paper making process. Such a pleasure and a privilege to see this place. Such a beautiful location. A must see!

Valle delle Cartiere is absolutely stunning. We have stayed in Toscalano Maderno for our last 2 holidays and I have run there regularly. Our children have all enjoyed the walks (which you can adjust in length to suit age/ whether the terrain is ok for a buggy) There is lots to see (waterfalls, bridges, fords, old paper mills, caves etc) We love it!

A thoroughly enjoyable walk following the river up the valley past where earlier in the 17 century there had been up to nearly 70 paper mills along the banks of the river. Good information signs to allow a great learning experience, But the walk itsel was just fantastic with some great views. Highly recommended. Oh and the cappucino at the bar/cafe at the museum...a must have.

I hear great things about the hike to the museum. Where does the hike begin? Can you please provide an address or directions?
Written July 28, 2019
The hike begins near Municipio, at Toscolano.

Written June 18, 2017
Hi, SuzieQQ. What would you like to know about this attraction?
If we take a ferry there, where/how do you access the walk through the valley?
Thanks
