Sam runs a small bike place where you can get your high end (or not so high end) bike fixed and tuned, get a professional bike fit or rent a real road bike to go on curated bike tour around Paris (on your own or accompanied).
Other than a bike fit to start with, I have mostly seen Sam for general bike maintenance and components upgrades over the years.
He always did a state of the art work, spent as much time as needed to get to the bottom of why this wheel or else would make the tiniest littlest noise, offered unbiased and personally thought through advice on how to improve my riding experience, made himself available in case of emergency (say replace a tubular the day before I leave for holidays), let me test countless stems or saddles before I settled on one months later without even charging me a rental, etc. etc.
This is by far the best bike place I have ever been and Sam's competence, honesty and kindness stands makes this place a real stand out!

The staff was all very friendly and helpful. The bikes are excellent ... really nice road bikes. I especially liked the staffs eagerness to make recommendations for riding routes, and for their help choosing a bike for a long charity ride.

Let's suppose you're a half-decent, wholly-enthusiastic road cyclist and you've happened upon Paris in the middle of December. It's cold. Tourists plug the streets, even in the off-season. There's sooty diesel in the air. You ate something made of cream and you're desperate for caloric catharsis. It's very cold.
And you learn that just beyond the city there's one Haute valley-- a web of quiet, rolling, simply brilliant country roads. The pavement there is perfect. Paris forbids honking, so the towns outside forbid potholes. There's a smattering of historic sites to visit. Adventure beckons. You must find a way to ride. (Despite the cold).
The native Parisians seem to ride nice bikes, but you know nobody in this city. The tourist rental shops have touring cycles, but all have issues-- bald tires, rusting chains, questionable cables. It's December, so the shop owners are on holiday and prefer to ignore you. The commuter Velib bikes look tempting. Could one last 100km outside the city? It's cold, very cold.
But then you find Sam. And Sam is an expat: he'll do a full-service rental for you in sleepy December. And Sam is legit: he'll set you up with a real, $2,000 carbon road bike. A bike with trustworthy, properly inflated tires. (He's also thoughtfully inspected them, and has carefully wiped them of spurs and debris).
And what's more, Sam is wise: he's done fittings for decades, and he'll make this one hug your every curve. Without ever meeting you. You text him a few garbled things about your awkward physique. And the next morning he's prepared a bike that embraces your short legs and weak arms. The bike fits so well, you question the trustworthy, custom rig you have at home. Your familiar bike is reasonable, comfortable, and it's been part of you. But Sam's bike has shown you that you've made a few key mistakes in life. Sam has shown you something Better.
Lastly, Sam is an artist: he's in this for the show, to subtly suggest how one's Parisian adventure should happen. Needless to say, this ride is bespoke for you. He banters with you and tells you stories of his many journeys. His friendly charm gives you confidence. In his smile, you've found a warm part of the city.

Sam gave us the opportunity to bike through Paris countryside. He delivered the bikes on time to our hotel with all the specifications we required. He also assisted us with pre loading the Garmin GPS with a route for us to follow starting from Versailles. I specified that I wanted to ride 70-80km, and we got just as we asked for. The route was easy to follow and was great for road biking. My husband and I appreciated the service and would consider doing that again the next time we are in Paris.

Sam is a legend. He's like a mate you've known for all your life; he's a riding buddy who loves bikes and loves that you do too.
I have done two rides with the Paris Cycling Group while in Paris on business. The first time I went, one of the organisers at PCG suggested contacting Sam.
From that first contact, dealing with Sam has been easy and professional. He sent me a measurement chart for my set-up and using that, he set up a Cannondale bike which was perfect.
He comes to the shop when you need him too, and was there when I finished the rides.
The second time I used him, last weekend, was over a year after the first time but he still had my details. All it took the second time was ONE EMAIL!
If you're riding in Paris, Sam's your guy. If you need a group, get into Paris Cycling Group.

If you are looking to ride bikes in and around Paris, Paris Bike Company is the best option. Sam rented road bikes to our group of four, fitted the bikes perfectly from our own bike's measurements, and helped us plan a route for our day. He is friendly, fun and knowledgable and was super easy to work with. His communication via email prior to our trip was fantastic. This was the only place that I could find to rent road bikes in the area and his fleet was well taken care of and rode beautifully. I cannot say enough about Sam and his passion for all things bikes! If I lived in Paris his would definitely be my LBS. Thanks for everything!

Well you really can't say enough good about Sam and Paris Bike Co. If there is one thing he excels at its going way above and beyond to make his customers feel welcome, safe, and happy with their experience.
We rented bikes ahead of time and he asked for our bike measurements so that when we arrived the bikes were ready to go and in great shape. He even fit my girlfriend on the spot and provided advice on how to better adjust her fit at home. Something that very few others will do for free!
As I mentioned and cannot express my happiness enough the bikes were in great shape. Coming from London just a week earlier were I had a miserable experience Sam restored faith in me that some people really do give a damn about what they do for a living.
Now onto customer service and going above and beyond. As others have mentioned he gives lots of great advice for traveling around town and even provided us with bonus custom routes for free which took us to parts of France we never would have gone to on our own. Now for the above and beyond part. We got lost or rather I followed a misguided navigation unit and ended up an hour off course from when I said we would have the rental bikes back. He was kind enough to stay open until 2100 to wait for our return with out charging us anything extra for the inconvenience! He even then was happy to see us when we got in and shared a drink with us! I seriously can't tell you how much I enjoyed my experience and hope you do yourself a favor when you in town and get to know this very nice and genuine man who loves what he does and genuinely cares for his customers.

The other reviews are glowing for Sam and for Paris Bike Co. I absolutely agree! A friend from the US who is a passionate biker wanted to ride for a few days outside of Paris. The bikes that Sam provided were high-end carbon framed bikes (Specialized Roubaix and Cannondale Synapse). Sam took the time to get each of us set up and suggested routes with Strava; he was also very generous with spare gear and advice. As an added plus, Sam is a native english speaker yet fluent in french, there is no barrier to effective communication. If you are interested in seeing a little countryside in France, this is a great way to go. Although it is fun to get lost a little, I would recommend bringing or renting a bar mounted smartphone with Strava or a GPS; it will help keep you on the route (road names in France change very frequently and signage is not always easy to find).

Great to meet Sam, who just loves cycling and bikes! Excellent friendly service and very flexible on meet up/drop off arrangements for the Bike Hire. Full range of kit discussed for set up....frame size, fitting, pedals etc. and he was also very happy to recommend/share routes for cycling in the countryside around Paris. Already reserving for the next outing...

I found Paris Bike Company online and was certainly not disappointed. Sam was so easy to email with and went out of his way to set me up with a flawless bike. I arranged a 4/4.5 hour ride with Luis, but he happily rode with me for 6 hours for the same price. It was a beautiful, 85km ride on the countryside southwest of Paris. We even stopped by Versailles for a hot minute (you can see my terrible photo attached). All in all, I cannot recommend this company enough. Solid bikes, great guide and smooth logistics. What else could you want. You can't go wrong with Sam and Luis.

Thanks a million Mike!! We strongly support our fellow cyclist who are riding for charity and Luis was certainly happy to ride (5, not quite 6) hours to keep you in shape for the California Aids Life Cycle ride!!! Thanks again and we look forward to having you back!!

Hello Joe, I'm sorry, I did not get an alert that you'd contacted me via TripAdvisor till just now. Are you looking to rent a road (racing) bike? That's what we rent. We do prefer that you go through the reservation process via the website so we're sure to prep a bike that's been confirmed with payment in advance. I'll admit that "last minute" isn't our strong point as we like to be thorough with setup (we set up each bike to your bike's measurements and saddle specs as we've been fitting bikes for over 19 years and realise the importance of this detail). We can certainly help set it up when you come in if you don't have your measurement info available. We do need to know as soon as possible please so we have time to prep a bike nonetheless. It is "off season" so our bikes need a decent check up before we're comfortable sending them out. Thanks and again I'm sorry if this caught you late.
