Migrants Tour of Melbourne - Sydney Road

Sydney Road, a narrow busy street at the north of Melbourne has hundreds of stories. Stories of the indigenous Wurrundjery people using the creek as their main walking path to the north, and the stories of the gold miners, quarry workers, textile labourers, new migrants, and more new migrants from different cultures. The stories tell us how they built a new life here and how they got to get along with each other. Sydney Road is the mix of ugly and beautiful, friendships and conflicts, art, different cuisines, smells, colours and languages.

Join our tour of Sydney Road in the eclectic suburb of Brunswick, so you experience what locals do, on a Cultural Experience Tour.

Melbourne is one of the most multicultural cities in the world. The suburb of Brunswick has a great mix of art, cafes and diverse cultures with an interesting history.

This is a great bookshop in the heart of Brunswick. They have a very interesting selection of books, different and quirky, much more interesting than in the big chain bookstores. Bought a few books from there that I never saw anywhere else and if they don't have the book you are looking for, they can order it for you. My favourite bookshop so far, happy to support local independent shop.

This is a great little bookshop on Sydney Road. They have a big variety of books and will order something in if it's not there on the shelf. It's a little more expensive than the chain stores, but worth the extra money to support this independent book shop.

Neat name for a bookstore. I discovered this store when invited to a book launch (poetry) and liked it a lot. So good to find an independent bookseller with quality stock, plus music, zines, stationery, etcetera. I didn't go upstairs but understand you'll find a selection of gifts for sale there. The bookstore is open seven days. Public transport runs along Sydney Road. There are other good retail stores plus restaurants, cafes and pubs -- so you can stay in the area for a few hours.
