Hovdala castle is an interesting, historical building which tells a lot about the wars between Denmark and Sweden. It is also a good place to rest if you are hiking in Hovdala. Don't miss the nice restaurant and café here!

We made a point of visiting the castle during the time of the guided visit (every day at 2pm in summer, only in Swedish) and the hour spent wandering through the grounds of the fortified mansion and its rooms was a delight. Our guide, Annika, who doubles as castle gardener when she is not guiding visitors inside the mansion was very detailed and thorough in her narration of various episodes from when the castle was the property of the Ehrenborg family, until - in 1988 - the state agency for historical buildings took over and undertook renovation.…

I had their buffet and I really loved the food. The cod in white wine sauce is absolutely brilliant. Spoke to the young chef and I had to tell him that I have seldom had so good fish and I don't really enjoy fish normally.

We have been here many times. The castle is set in the most beautiful of nature surrounds. It has an interesting history going back 500 years. Taking a guided tour is a good idea to really feel the history to come alive. There is a restaurant here but we have often taken a lunch with us and spent the whole day around the castle area. The tour shop has some very interesting things to see, not just to buy, so even if you don't want to buy anthing go in and look. If you are visiting the Hassleholm area then I really recommend a day out at Hovdala Castle.…

Lovely place for a short walk, including the gardens and a small art gallery. The gardener is a lovely chatty lady. The coffee shop is so so, last time there were not able to provide a glass of water with coffee :( Good place for a picnic.
