Expensive but worth it

Went to see a magnificent exhibition there on Franz Marc and Kandinsky. Yes, it is expensive - 25 euros to get in - but the quality is extraordinary

Having read Trip Advisor reviews from travelers who visited the museum when much of the permanent collection was not on view, I checked its website before deciding whether to go. I found no information about gallery closures. (If it was there, it was not prominently enough displayed for me to find it.) I decided to go anyway and take my... More

You should visit this museum for its architecture, for the landscapes and definitely for the exhibitions. A must see museum.

The Fondation Beyeler is definitely worth a visit. The building and grounds by themselves justify the short trip from the centre of Basel. The architecture is very interesting and complements the art very nicely. I specifically visited for 'Kandinsky, Marc & Der Blaye Reiter' exhibition which was fantastic. Carefully chosen and presented artwork, demonstrating how the movement developed and helping... More

Wonderful exhibits, beautifully curated, with detailed pamphlets on each exhibit in English. Be sure to walk around the grounds and enjoy the gardens, as well as the surrounding pastureland and views. It is expensive, though. Adult entrance is 25 Swiss Francs (over $25!). Students get a discount, but not seniors.

When we were there the museum had a special exhibit of Kandinsky and der blaue Reiter. It was very interesting. Almost all of their space was devoted to the special exhibit. It seemed to be well run and the gift shop was lots of fun. Their restaurant across the green was delightful. We sat outside on a beautiful fall day.

First, I need to disagree with those who claim this is the "best museum in the region". It's not even the best museum in Basel (Beyeler is in the village of Riehen, which seems almost indistinguishable from Basel), which has the outstanding Kunstmuseum. Second, we did not view the permanent art work in this museum, only the wonderful "Kandisky, Marc,... More

This is by far the best museum in the region. Maybe even in Europe: The exhibitions are just top and worldclass. At the moment "Blaue Reiter" are on show. It is just a must to see it. And if you have time it is worth to get an official tour. The tour guides are very knowledgeable and you will experience... More

Do you want to see some superb temporary or permanent exhibitions? Take the time to go to Foundation Beyeler. We went there to see the exhibitions on "Kandinsky, Marc & Der Blaue Reiter": simply outstanding. Well displayed. Excellent commentaries on this movment and the painters. We are now planning to go again to see the exhibition on Roni Horn. If... More

Our host recommended this gallery as the best of 40 or so museums to visit in Basel . From the centre of Basel you need to take a tram to Fondation Beyeler stop . It's pricey on the tram but little alternative as it takes 1 hour 30 min to walk . The exhibition itself is not huge but set... More
