This is one of the most beautiful museums I've visited, mostly because of the excellent exhibitions (such as the Calder and Fishley-Weiss in June 2016), but also because of the beautiful layout and gardens arond it. As a matte of fact, the museum is in a suburb of Basel, which is still agricultural, so the museum is also surrounded by... More

A short tram ride from our hotel. Impressive collection of Picasso, Monet water lily, and others in a beautiful garden setting.Well worth the visit and 5 chf cheaper on Mondays! Also had a lovely lunch at their Cafe. You have to check your bags and cameras at the door (free lockers) but they don't seem to challenge people taking pictures with... More

Went to this museum as they have on loan a collection of Pablo Picasso paintings. There were also other paintings in the abstract / modern genre. Along with these there were other modern exhibitions of the emperors new clothes type (my opinion) i.e. if enough people say it has merit then we all should agree. For instance a concrete pipe... Great art museum with an interesting mix of works covering Matisse, Picasso, Monet and modern masters like Rothko, Bacon, Richter, and Stella. When I visited there was a great exhibition of work by Alexander Calder which was very expansive and informative. The Fondation is set in lovely gardens, an easy tram ride from the city centre, and the building itself... More

It was a revelation to see so much contemporary art in Basel and in this museum. We were illetarate about Contemporary art but thank to our B&B hosts (La Vie en Rose - great owners) we have visited this Museum and also the Kunstmuseam. It was really a fantastic discovery!!

Well, I did research this place and actually watched a 30 minute documentary on my KLM flight from Chicago to Amsterdam about Art Basel. Art Basel was started by Ernst Beyeler and the Fondation Beyeler is a combination of his private art collection and a beautiful property showcasing the beauty of Swiss outdoor nature. We actually took the Strassenbahn (train/streetcar... More

Accessibility is one of the best ever. You can nearly touch all exhibits. Great location, a wonderful combination of external and internal surroundings, within a short drive from Basel.
