Discover Blair Castle and go on a journey into the fascinating past of the Dukes and Earls of Atholl. Unique amongst Scottish castles, the story here leads you from Mary Queen of Scot's visit to the Civil War, and from the Jacobite cause to Queen Victoria's famous stay which led to the creation of Europe's only surviving private army, the Atholl Highlanders. Over 700 years of Scottish history are on display across 30 rooms. Highlights of the castle tour include the Baronial Entrance Hall, featuring weapons used at the Battle of Culloden; the classic Georgian styling of the Picture Staircase; the grandeur of the State Dining Room and Drawing Room; and the magnificent Ballroom, bedecked in hundreds of antlers. The Castle sits at the hub of a breathtaking historic landscape and the gardens and grounds feature a 9 acre walled garden, a peaceful wooded grove, a ruined kirk, a red deer park and a whimsical Gothic folly.

A beautiful castle full of history and objet d'Art and some lovely grounds.

The castle is full of history, rooms have been left the way they would have been when this castle was lived in. We tagged onto a free guided tour around the castle. The tour guide... read more

The castle is full of history, rooms have been left the way they would have been when this castle was lived in. We tagged onto a free guided tour around the castle. The tour guide was quite knowledgable and carried herself well though it was obvious she didn't have too much experience in guiding tours. She was friendly, helpful and... More

Blair Castle, home of the Dukes of Atholl, is a surprise because it looks very much like a Bavarian castle, painted white with rounded towers. You are greeted by a kilted bagpiper and friendly tour guides who seem to really enjoy talking about the families that designed and lived in the castle. It is a mixture of Victorian finery and... We toured the castle and found it fascinating. Very historical. We enjoyed reading about the history. Certainly worth the trip. We did find walking the grounds and the gardens more to our liking. Very pleasant walk throughout the area, with some great views. A bagpiper comes out onto the front entrance and places every hour. It was enjoyable.

We were greeted by a friendly peacock and to backpipe music played infront of the Castle. The Entrance Hall alone is breathtaking and maybe a bit intimidating. The rest of the Castle is no less interesting. This was a surprise stop for us, but we are so glad we did. Even for our teenagers, there is interesting history and items... More

Even though it was a rainy day, my parents and I could make it to the castle and enjoyed very much the inside as well as the gardens. The castle is very well kept and the gardens will take your breath away!

Very well maintained castle where you can take a self-guided tour through the 30 rooms. Outdoors, you have the formal Hercules garden to wander around or else "lose" yourselves in Diana's grove - a wonderful area of old growth trees. The cafe has a good selection of snacks as well.

Lovely grounds around the castle with selection of cannons and barrels round castle. Loads of guns with and without bayonets, swords and lances on show. Interesting video introducing the castle and history. Good selection of rooms to visit. Pleasant reasonable cafe.

I found it interesting to learn about Blair Castle and its history with Queen Victoria. While the tour was self guided most rooms had a guide in it to ask questions. We quite enjoyed the information that 1 of the guides, Daniel, provided us.

Visited as part of a Shearings tour. The highlight of the visit was a tour of the estate on an open wagon towed by a tractor with Sandy a retired estate gamekeeper at the wheel. A visit to the deer park was delightful as the young were only weeks old. Sandy gave us a very relaxed overview of the estate... More
