Top ways to experience Ujibashi Bridge and nearby attractions

The area
Address
Neighborhood: Southern Kyoto
Southern Kyoto has a reserved air. Though the Fushimi Inari Shrine is one of Kyoto's major tourist attractions, the surrounding nature, parks, gardens, temples, and shrines provide less-visited spaces for strolling and reflection. The Fushimi Inari Shrine itself is made up of 32,000 sub-shrines, and the mountain they are dotted across beckons hikers, picnickers, and lovers of the outdoors. Many of the mountain's off-set paths aren't frequented by tourists, and the mountain's serenity can be enjoyed at a leisurely pace. Southern Kyoto is the place to enjoy being outside, and to pay your respects to the ancient architecture and gods of the land that are celebrated here.

The major tourist spot in Uji. Nobody would miss this bridge during their visit to Uji. It was an ancient bridge built to facilitate transportation flow between two sides of the city. Nice to take photos on the bridge, particularly at sunset.

Ujibashi Bridge is the main bridge across the Uji River. It is one of the ancient bridges in Japan and has been part of some major historical events.
Anybody who will visit the Byodo-in temple will not miss to see this bridge. It has this disticnt identity of big timbers adorned with some metal plates.
The bridge is wide enough with its side walk that is very convenient to stroll along and view the serene village around.

Uji is a suburb in Kyoto, famous for its green tea. The anime Hibike Euphonium was set in Uji and at the tourist information counter outside JR Uji station, you can get a free map highlighting places in Uji that were featured in the anime. The locations are all nearby and it makes for a pleasant walking tour of Uji.

Ujibashi bridge is one of these places. The bridge is deep yellow in colour and has some significance in Japanese history. There's a statue of a lady who was the world's first novelist. Her stories were set in Uji. I wasn't able to cross it as there was construction work going on. I'm grateful that there's a public toilet nearby.

It's not a popular spot, but it has many historical meanings, joining up the two sides... You can walk across it to discover more about Uji.
Uji itself is a good place to visit, infamous for its green tea (matcha) production... Go for a green tea ice-cream too! You know you want to!

According to the guide book, _Cool Japan_, by Sumili Kajiyama (which is an excellent guide to several places in Japan), this bridge connects the physical to the spiritual, male to female, and creates a melancholic atmosphere. It is lovely to view the town and mountains from.

The bridge offers some lovely, clear views of Uji and its surroundings, and the statue on one side of it is very attractive... it makes for part of a very pleasant walk around a very lovely town. It is also near the Tourist Information centre by the river, which itself is next to a place where you can attend a tea ceremony (in Japanese). This was a wonderful experience for me, and the other attendees at the ceremony were extremely welcoming despite my knowing very little Japanese and very little of the details of what was going on! Uji is a lovely town to visit, especially if you like green tea and are interested in tea ceremonies.

The bridge is low key and defines the river showing the actual width of the river. Personally didn't cross it for I can in by train.

Ujibashi Bridge is a timber bridge located at the prime spot at the entrance to the souvenir shops at one end and the eating houses cum tourist spot on the other. The statue of local writer, Murasaki Shikibu, is erected by the side of the bridge. Nearly all visitors will take photos here for memory purposes. Highly recommended.

This bridge over Uji river allows a pleasant stroll over the river whilst enjoy the wonderful surroundings. The Ujibashi Bridge is a wooden bridge. t is very close to the main shopping area in the town. Right besides the bridge , the status of a famous author named Murasaki Shikibu is installed.

Ujibashi Bridge was not very special except that this bridge located at the junction of the main shopping street in Nara and there was a statue of Murasaki Shikibu erected there. Murasaki Shikibu was a famous author of Tales of Genji. You could also walk along the Ujibashi Bridge and go to the other side of Uji Bridge but normally you better go to the direction of shopping street and cross the other bridge and walk back on other side.
