Uplifting Kyoto: Private Tour of Uji's Tea, Shrines, and Natural Spirituality

Ever wondered what makes Japanese green tea so special? Explore the nuances of Kyoto's most famous tea producing area on a private tour of Uji and learn not only about the intricacies of tea, but also the engaging local history. Just a little off the beaten path (around 30 minutes by local train from central Kyoto points such as the Gion or Kyoto Station areas), Uji packs in breathtaking views of the river and mountains, and houses not one, but two UNESCO world heritage sites within a 10-minute walk of each other. All of this, and with far less people than you'd typically find canvassing the well worn paths of central Kyoto.

In addition to tea and nature, this tour also features a visit to Byodo-in, a magnificent temple with a superlative, modern museum as well (admission included), around which you'll be guided by a native or equivalent English speaker who is sure to be friendly, accessible, and also very knowledgeable about the finer points of tea and Buddhism.

This is my best experience so far, wearing kimono while roaming in the Byodoin temple. We came late in the shop but they didn't charge us extra, the staff are very accommodating, friendly and respectful. They are all skilled at what they do. I learned that wearing one isn't that easy, good thing we have the shop's professional staff who had helped us with the hairstyle, accessories and wearing the kimono itself. Superb and very good service indeed! I would recommend this to everyone. If you wish to try it, Kimono Rental Kyoto Aiwafuku Uji Byodoin is a must go! We loved it! 10 stars!

My husband and I passed by a Kimono Rental store and just walked in without reservation. The staff welcomed us and showed us the Kimono collections available. They have variety of Kimono available, and all of them are pretty and in good quality. The staff who helped me putting on the Kimono was very caring, kept asking if it was too tight and whether I was feeling comfortable. Price is reasonable and a little bit cheaper as compared to other Kimono Rental stores in Osaka. One of the staff speaks Mandarin and she had been very helpful when we had communication difficulties in Japanese. Overall we had an awesome experience at Kimono Rental Kyoto Aiwafuku Uji Byodoin and will definitely come again next time!

There are only 2 kimono rental shops in Uji with both easy to find by walk from train station to Byodoin Temple. Aiwafuku have a various beautiful Kimono to choose. The package already include kimono, bag and socks and shoes and storage for a small bag but if you want make up and hair style is extra cost. They have dress for man, women and kids. Staff very helpful. Recommend to try.

The shop is easy to locate. Prompt email reply as I thought there was JR disruption that day and told the shop that I would like to postpone my appointment, they were very helpful in telling me that there was actually no problem with the JR traffic and was fine with my delay. Ladies there to help are very gentle and attentive to details. Choices of kimono are adequate and beautiful. Prices already include hairstyling service which makes the price even more reasonable. They also printed out photos of me as little souvenir, warm touch. I enjoyed my kimono experience here much more than some very popular stores that I have been to in centre Kyoto. Highly recommend!

I went with my aunt and uncle, who were visiting me from England and my boyfriend who was also studying abroad with me and they made it fun for all of us. They were very warm and welcoming, and didn’t make us feel uncomfortable at all. They also did an amazing job at putting on the kimonos, and the hairstylist was so skilled we felt beautiful afterwards. There were lots of styles to chose from for men and women with the type of dress, and the women’s hairstyles were all beautiful (we went for elegant and cute). This is definitely the place to go if you’re in Uji!
