The amber museum is located about half an hour's drive from the city of Rostock. It is next to the monastery in Ribnitz, and is one of the largest exhibitions of amber in Europe.

The main exhibition is located on the first floor. Excellent presentation with magnifying glasses places in front of pieces with small insects and plants. Upstairs it was possible to have a closer look on how amber can be polished etc.

Been there with 15-years-old Erasmus+ students. Great exhibits, amazing pieces of art made of amber, suitable for younger kids as well, good prices at the museum shop! Great!!!

Very nice museum with an extra part for kids where they can do handicraft. Also the staff was very nice and took a lot of time explaining us things about Bernstein.

This is an interesting thematic museum, that is classically presented and organized. The exhibition is larger than you would expect and covers all aspects of amber from origin, distribution, exploitation and use in the area and farther. A small part of the explanations is summarized in English. Worth a small detour. Nice building and town area.

This was an unexpected treat in Ribnitz-Damgarten. The ideal way to spend a rainy afternoon. Exhibits were educational, teaching us non-locals a lot about amber and its popularity in the area. Gift shop was also a treat, and there were plenty of affordable jewelry pieces that are unusual and beautiful. Kids may not get quite the same kick out of it, but for an hour or two it will hold their attention!

The Deutsches Bernsteinmuseum, an interesting amber museum in Ribnitz-Damgarten, features the history & processing of Baltic amber. There is a gift shop in the museum where you can purchase some geological specimens, amber jewelry & souvenirs as well as books on the subject. Worth a visit if you are interested in amber.

Conditioned by my culture, that is, Bernstein equals Leonard Bernstein, I thought the museum was formerly the house of the Bernstein family...No, Bernstein in German is amber, and it is just that, the amber museum, there are exhibits of, well, amber, and a film showing how amber is found, and of course the requisite museum shop and the amber jewelry workshop, well worth the trip. Just be sure you either park on a side street or have one of those parking wheels, and don't exceed the time because yes, you will get a ticket.

Really nice exhibition. It was very interesting and more than expected. Also visit the fun area. The entrance fee however is quite high.
