It was my brothers and my idea to interrup our city based Iran trip in a national park. I guess we picked the right one: Golestan NP offers pure nature with nice woods, views, animals and even some history.
Due to the Turkmen Ecolodge and Kamrens help it was possible to enjoy this enviroment at it´s best. Rigth from the beginning he helped us in a very personal way. We told him what we wanted and he arranged everything to made this possible, like checking the best way to get there from Mashhad and even booking tickets for us.

He gaved us a deep view in his work for the Golestan National park what includes the people of his village. So he, his nice wife Forough and staff pampered us with yummy food (most of it is organ and produced in his neighbourhood). The Ecolodge itself is cozy, with simple, traditional interior and much love for details.

On our two night stay we took a short walk near the lodge and a long guided hike the next day (approx 8 hours) with excellent food prepared on a bonfire.

Kamren always cared for us, even when we left his house.

We had a lovely stay at Turkmen Ecolodge. The lodge is traditional, in a very nice rural setting in a small village outside the park. The food was wonderful.
The owners/managers, Kamran, Forough and their staff are great, very knowledgeable, and they made the stay really great. A very good concept, to develop a lodge with the community and staff from the National Park, and at the same time to develop an education center for the children of the area.
Kamran did a game drive with us in the park, with hikes in some parts. He is a very knowledgeable guide, showed us tracks of bears, leopards and wolves, but we saw also Gazelle, Wild sheep, a Cobra, many bird species etcetera. A beautiful, very varied park, from forest to steppe landscapes in a very short distance.
We definitely hope to come back one day!

Staying at the Turkmen Ecolodge, I went on a hike through the Hyrcanian forest - and stopped at a point where the views were fantastic. The forest is rich with birdlife and scents of nature that you will not experience in any other national park.

My wife and I spent 3 wonderful nights in the Ecolodge with Kamran and Farouk. It is a beautiful place to stay and the whole ambiance of the area is amazing. The house and the gardens are very relaxing and there are several short walks around the area to enjoy.
Kamran and Farouk are wonderful hosts and did so much to make our stay very enjoyable. They are great company and many is the stories that were told after dinner! Speaking of which the food was wonderful 3 times a day and it was great to see so much of it being sourced locally.
They are also very passionate about the the national park and about the environment generally. Iran has so much to offer as a destination and especially in the area of its natural parks. It is great to see people who have the vision and the knowledge to help with the development of the park in a sustainable way.
We did a 1 day hike with Kamran and his guide in the national park and it was really enjoyable. It was great to learn about all the animals the live in the park and we got to see quiet a few. Kamran was also very tolerant with some of the less fit members of the party!!
All in all I would highly recommend the Ecolodge and hope to go back someday!!

Golestan National Park is the oldest national park in Iran and one of the oldest national parks in the world. Golestan Forest, another name of the Golestan National Park, has been listed as one of the best and also fifty ecosystems in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1354, which is geographically located in the east of the Golestan province as well as west of the North Khorasan province. Which is one of the oldest and best national parks that has been registered, so it is one of the most valuable regions in Iran.
