Do NOT waste your holidays by coming here!!

I recently completed a home exchange in Vilagarcia de Arousa which was sold on the basis that it was a lovely spot, 5 minutes to the beach and famous for its gastronomy and local wines. The photos of the place on the site showed beautiful places and beaches NONE of which were actually in Vilagarcia. From the minute we arrived it was just one disappointment after another. The place is dull, ugly, uninteresting and has ZERO places of interest. Walking around the town on our first evening we actually found it impossible to find a nice restaurant but convinced ourselves that things would pick up the next day when we explored ‘the beach’ and ‘the marina’........ Can you imagine our horror when we walked down to the water front the following morning to be greeted by a dirty unattractive port with ‘a beach’ which was actually just a dirty strip of pebbles covered in slimy green seaweed with a view of an excellent industrial port........horrendous!!. As there was absolutely nothing to do in the town we resigned ourselves to having not a relaxing easy holiday but to one that involved taking trains/buses every day to check out other towns. Santiago de Compostela was a lovely trip but unfortunately we could not stay for the evening to eat as it would mean a taxi back to Vilagarcia as the trains stop early!! We had already been stung the night before when we paid €40 to take a taxi back from Pontevedra. Our one and only good meal was a fantastic lunch in La Taberna de Pedro in Vigo....an absolute gem! Great food great stafff....go there! To be quite honest I could go on and on but I really just want to wipe this nightmare of a holiday from my mind. All I will say is that if you are unfortunate to go to Vilagarcia make sure you have a car or even better a boat ,as then at least you can get the hell out of the place. NEVER AGAIN!!!
