This is a small museum with a series of paintings and artwork, open from 10am, and worth calling in if passing but not worth a detour to see. Entrance is free.

This small museum at Castlemola is free to enter.
We came across it by chance. Interesting, but not really worth a special visit.

Sure that this place represents an important way point for all those that will decide to visit the beautiful Castelmola.
Sicilian puppets tells a lot about history and myths of Sicily.
Where culture and drama takes place in an exclusive contest and unique way to communicate with people.

For a unique experience, make sure you go to the Museo del castello di mola when they have the puppet show on. The kids (5 and 10) really enjoyed the puppet show, as did we. The puppeteers did a fantastic job and let the kids have a go with one of the puppets at the end of the show. It was great to see the puppets in action (having seen lots of little ones in the shops). You can then have a lovely drink at the top overlooking Taormina.

We visited this tiny museum perched high up on the mountain with glorious views high above Taormina primarily to visit the weekly puppet show. My husband was reluctant to visit, not having any interest in puppets but after seeing 'images' of Castelmola, he agreed to accompany me.
I had seen an episode of Inspector Montalbano telling the story of King Charlemagne and the heroic Orlando along with Angelina and the Muslim army but was unprepared for the spectacle of these almost life sized puppets lavishly dressed with dramatic music and fierce fighting with heads flying into the audience.
The puppeteer was really amazing and one of the puppets carried a large stick which seemed to self ignite and was waving all over the stage with great gusto.
All this for five euros and an offering of free cakes. We were only dismayed that we were only two of the seven in the audience.
Such enthusiasm and a dying art should be better supported and we could not understand why there were no children watching.
If you get the chance, please visit this very entertaining display - performances are every Sunday I believe. By the way, there was an interactive demonstration with the puppets and my husband enjoyed it immensely.
