West Bay is what many consider the picture-perfect Caribbean destination: white sand, clear, calm waters and full service resorts. The variety of water activities include scuba diving, fishing charters, snorkeling and parasailing. Scuba diving and...more

I traveled to Roatan on my Carnival cruise itinerary. The beach is about 30 min drive from the cruise port. My plan was to go to Bananarama resort and use the facilities and beach access. But when we got there we were informed that they...More
We spent a few hours on West Bay Beach while on the island for the day. This is my ideal kind of beach... soft sand, clear water, nice easy entry into the ocean with soft sandy bottom. We grabbed a couple lounge chairs in the...More
This beach had the most beautiful water. We had a guide that offered to take us to West Bay or another more private area. We chose West Bay because of the activities offered. We went snorkeling which was amazing. We spent our time in front...More
I've never been to a place when you could wade into the water and it be solely sand until you get to the shallow reef! The water is calm - which makes swimming and snorkelling very easy. If you want to see fish swim right...More
This place is a true gem. It is a natural, soft, sandy beach with jaw dropping snorkeling in just a few feet of water - very hard to find both in one location and it feels almost like a secret you don't want to share...More
We did a couple hour visit as part of an island tour with Anderson Tours. Spent most of the time at Banarama. Clean beach, very clear water , restaurant & bar right there on the beach. We spent a couple hours here & found it...More
I'm not into sitting amongst rows and rows of beach chairs, parasailing, over-priced fishing or being constantly bugged by vendors, so my review is coming from that place. The West Bay beach and snorkeling are absolutely beautiful, but it is kind of like combat vacationing,...More
The beach at West bay is unbelievable, I have travel to many Caribbean beaches and West bay is one of the best. It has very clear waters, it has a very short beach, you cannot walk into the sea very long.
The ocean is very...More

I would not negotiate with a local taxi driver outside of the cruise port gate- I have been visiting Roatan on cruise ships off and on for the past 20 years - you have to be very careful. West Bay Beach area is absolutely beautiful - the ship excursion to Tabyana beach is good, but can get crowded - best beach on the island to snorkel from the beach - the ship excursion includes lunch there of hot dogs, chicken and hamburgers, lemonade and tea and fresh fruit. Do not leave valuables on the lounge chairs - wear a waterproof neck wallet. Check the reviews of Rony's tours - we have used him recently because we just wanted to go to the beach. He will respond to your email promptly and can arrange to pick you up and take you to the area close to Tabyana and pick you up when you want for half the cost of the ship excursions, but it does not include any food or drinks. He can take you to Paradise resort (a $20 admission fee per person for use of lounge chairs and the facilities) or Bananarama resort ($10 per person admission fee for lounge chair and use of facilities and free wifi) and the beach there is beautiful - if you face the water from Bananarama, Paradise is just to the left and the best snorkeling is to the left of the pier that extends out - and that is the Tabyana area where the cruise ship passengers are taken. You will see the "reef police" out in kayaks and that is the snorkel area. They "patrol" to make sure you don't touch the coral and that everyone is OK - snorkeling in 8-10 feet of water with great visibility - best beach for snorkeling and as others have posted, you feel like you are in an island paradise. If you have never been to Roatan before, I suggest you contact Rony to arrange for an island tour with a beach stop so you can see other things on this beautiful island. They have security on the beaches at these places, but I still would not leave valuables on the lounge chairs - leave them on the ship or take with you in a waterproof neck wallet. We just returned once again from Roatan two weeks ago - wish I were there now. Enjoy!!

Just returned from a 2 week visit to Roatan. We stayed in West Bay at one of the best resorts on the island. We like to dive so what we were looking for was a mixture of relaxing fun in the sun and diving. We don't have to be busy all the time, in fact down time is more important to us than taking in tourist attractions. We have traveled extensively in the Caribbean and to many places around the world. In general, the trip was very enjoyable. Roatan is a nice island. It has natural beauty...More

Livingtotravel, Good to see you had some good comments about your experience.. but just argue or add a different point of view to your comments. I am a US Citizen that is living/working in Honduras the past 2 years. 1. TD- This pretty much exists no matter where you travel. Bacteria is on all food and when you travel to new areas you are exposed to some bacteria that your body might not have become immune to or may react differently. In fact in the US there are between 6-33 million...More

halfmoon bay questions (3 Replies)
Can you snorkel off the beach at Halfmoon Bay? Is it a nice beach to swim? How far of a walk (in miles) is it really to West End Restaurants? How far is it to the nearest water taxi to West Bay Beach? Any restaurants in the immediate area? I am thinking of staying in this area and just need a little help.....thanks!

You can snorkel at Halfmoon Bay. I go from out front of Halfmoon Bay Cabins. It's OK to swim but West Bay is much more beautiful and better for that. That said, I would still stay in Halfmoon rather than West Bay. It is very easy to walk everywhere in West End that you might want to go. I haven't ever taken the water taxi from Halfmoon to West Bay but I'm sure it is no problem. Yes, restaurants in the immediate area and West End. You'll be just fine.

Trip recommendations...Roatan or Turks and Caicos (2 Replies)
Hello! We are researching destinations for a spring break trip next March...I am a teacher. We enjoy great beaches and off-the beaten path locales. Our hope is to rent a condo/house instead of staying at a resort. Has anyone been to, both, Roatan and Turks and Caicos? Can you compare the beaches for us? We stopped at Roatan for 1/2 day on a cruise excursion, and loved the clear water of West Bay Beach. How does Turks and Caicos beaches compare? Restaurant/grocery prices? Thanks so much for...More
