Cruise ship people come here and it gets really crowded when the hoards come from often more than one ship. The reef is needing some help as too many uninformed people don't keep their hands and feet off the reef. There are so many great restaurants on the beach. People like to hang out in the water near shore drinking cocktails and the kids are fun to watch building sand castles etc. Best time to avoid the crowds is April and May or 6:30am til 10am. Diving has gone up in price as well as the cost of meals out. Happy hour is still great time to have inexpensive drinks. Sunsets are amazing!

When went on a cruise to Honduras and a few other island. I just want to say the island is beautiful and the west bay beach is awesome. When you arrive in Honduras and dock at the port leave the ship and go to the vendors which are outside the port . There will be 20 vendors or so that's when all the wheeling and dealing start everyone wants your business. We spoke to two vendors and they kept lowering their prices we wanted a tour of the island via mini bus because we had 11 people in our party we also wanted to go to the beach for the day. The vendor also suggested going to the monkey park which we also did. So we went to some shopping places to the monkey zoo which cost $10.00 to enter which was well worth the entrance fee. You get to see monkey ,sloth, parrots, butter flies and hummingbirds in a sanctuary and you can hold all of the. Then we got back on the bus and went to west bay which was beautiful and checked the beach out and went shopping .We paid $20:00 per person and tipped our tour guide at the end who gave us information about everything on the island also everything is cheap and negotiable.

The beach is flawless. Crystal clear water and warm. The west bay is naturally more expensive to eat compared to the west end but that’s expected. I recommend swimming closer to grand roatan resort as there are tons of fish and reefs to see and the food at that resort is also really good.

We have been to rotan and went to tabayna beach which was beautiful. Our plan was to go there again but our driver suggested west beach so we went there. The beach was nice but not as nice as tabayna. When we got back on the cruise ship we noticed several small red bites on our legs, all 4 of us had bites. Don’t waste your time going to west beach I think the taxi drivers get some sort of commission if they bring you there plus tabayna is further away and they would rather not drive that far. Don’t let them convince you to go to west beach. I will not go to that beach again

West Bay is a very popular beach on the island but for good reason. There are many resorts, restaurants, and attractions along this beautiful beach. It does get very busy on cruise ship days but that never hinders me, my friends, and my family from enjoying ourselves. I personally like to eat and sit at Bananarama in the middle of West Bay. I would also recommend snorkeling near Grand Roatán and jet skiing. It is also a good place to watch the sunset and is easily accessible during the day by car or water taxi from West End.

Johanna is the best (she is a local) who gave me the best massage. Very interesting lady who knows her business. She makes the neatest and longest lasting braids and her massage is actually very serious matter. She certainly knew what she was doing.

Great place to relax and wind down. Water was clear and shallow so could walk out a long way out to another sand bar maybe 120 yards. No good snorkelling right off the beach but can get a local boat out to the reef by 20 min boat ride. Restaurant was extremely slow for anything ordered at the beach and usually forgot half the order when it finally arrived. We were off a cruise ship so when your time is limited you need fast service...better to wander up to the bar yourself and order what you want then bring it to your spot on the beach.

We walked from Spash Inn down the beach to the Grand Roatan Resort for lunch on the last day of our trip. The beach was beautiful, and we saw many lovely resorts along the way. Next time when we are not diving in the afternoon, we will make a whole day of it and stop for cocktails at a few places. The walk is a nice example of the variety of resorts, bars and restaurants on the island, from casual and isolated to festive and hopping with beach activities. Lunch on the covered beach patio of the Iron Shore Restaurant was relaxing, and we caught a water taxi from Bananarama’s dock back to the Splash Inn . Will definitely make the trip again.

We took the water taxi from West End to West Bay, which cost 3 dollars. Great snorkeling off the beach as the reef is really close. Only drawback is that there is very little shade on the public beach strip that you can access. The rest is owned by a big hotel. And if it happens to be when a cruise ship is in it can be really packed. Good for a snorkel and then go have lunch somewhere along the beach.

Hello, we are staying several days at Infinity Beach Spa and Beach resort in April. Trying to decide whether to do the all-inclusive option or not. Is it best to stick to hotel restaurants or are there plenty of restaurants nearby to choose from ?

If you are not staying at one of the hotels in West Bay, and you're renting an apartment nearby, is there a public beach area in West Bay where you can bring your own chair and set it up on the beach, for free?

There are bunch of lawn chairs on beach between infinity and the Grande hotel
I think they are for cruise ship or anyone else I don’t think they let you sit there for free probably have to buy drink or food I think Infinity resort will let you use their chairs if buy something from restaurant
When we were staying at infinity resort couple visited parents there and used chairs even though not staying there or eating

Don’t know if the transport is possible in boat but guest so. About taxi, it cost us 40usd from West bay to the Media Luna by private taxi so it should be about 20usd and around 20/30 minutes drive. I guest it would be cheapest by publc taxi. Better the negociate prior departure.Have fun

Which days of the week are busiest with cruise ships now in February?

We arrived at Paradise Beach hotel Jan.27 and found the first week we were there was a little slower for Cruise ships. The first week of February was a lot busier , the first three days of the week ,but got nice and quiet Friday,Saturday,Sunday. You never have to worry about chairs as the look after guests first. We always had a lounge and an umbrella. So you had the best of two worlds. Busy to keep you entertained and then your quiet relaxing time, never boring!
How much is a cab ride from Coxen Hole Cruise Port to West Bay Beach and how long does it take to get there?
DrRuthK1
Arlington, VA68 contributions
How long it takes depends on the traffic, but about 15 to 20 minutes. Bargain with a taxi driver for the cost, based on how many of you there are. West Bay is a wonderful beach for snorkeling. You will see colorful fish, often very large ones. Go there near the point on your left as you face the water. If you have snorkel gear bring it. There are restaurants there. Eating or drinking at one of them will secure you a place to rest and leave your stuff. Otherwise you can leave it on the beach, but if there will be no one there to watch it, then do not take any valuables with you.

Hello,
Just saw your review. My family and I will be going to Roatan in October. Can you tell me how much your cab fare to the beach was. And did you have to pay anything to just walk onto the beach as you described in your review.
Thank you!!!

Hi
Where are you coming from to West Bay? The cab rates are based on distance.
There is no charge to walk on the beach. Some restaurants charge to use their camastros or they require a purchase from the restaurant which is fair.
Enjoy your trip!

We didn’t use a company but rather a local “guide”. We were a party of 5 and negotiated the cost. They took us from the cruise port to West Bay and stayed at the beach resort until we were ready to go back to the ship. Worked out perfectly.

West Beach is a great beach, soft sand, Chrystal waters, good snorkelling and diving is pretty good. The Bananarama has a great dive shop. Beach goes for miles, lots of restaurants, bars and decent live entertainment. Have fun.
