Puerto Viejo is the Old harbor of Getxo, a little and rich town located in the surroundings of Bilbao, a city in the north part of Iberian Peninsula. This town was very roch. In fact some of the most important people in Bilbao ans Euskadi...More
We lived in Getxo, while staying in Bilbao and we walked the port-side of the area every day, it was a great walking trip.
Port, old houses, beaches, sea, mountains, lighthouse, you get to see everything.
Great time with a family.
Unexpected place un the middle if the town. Little white houses, narrow streets, a charming corner with two taberns where you can taste tapas.
If you follow down the stairs the beach is waiting.
Enjoy the old port.
People visiting Bilbao often think that a traditional fishing village is somewhat far from the city, but here in Getxo in the Portu Zaharra of Algorta (Old Harbour) you can know first hand how a traditional fishing village is. Quite busy on sunny weekends.
Can get the metro out from center of Bilbao to Algorta (E1.80) and a short walk from the metro station into the old fishing port on the side of the hill. Worth the trip and a few nice restaurants and bars as well
We took a bus from Bilbao to get here and cost 3.90 euros for 2 of us. If you have difficult finding the old port (we did) ask someone. Very pretty place and it was nice to get out of the city for a few...More
The views are great, and the old flavour of the place makes it a relaxing walk. I usually try to stop by and have a drink and a pintxo on the way to the acantilados. The neighbourhood is nice, and the windy roads are enjoyable.
