Visited on a blustery day early March and it was a pleasant walk round the headland past the lighthouse. Surprisingly, the lighthouse is further inland than I expected - it’s also smaller than you might imagine and there’s no access into the building or grounds. We drove and parked in the surrounding housing estate which is obviously the wealthy part of the area as the houses are large and set in their own grounds. The cliff path meanders along the cliffs towards Soplana beach - for the initial stretch there’s a golf course bordering the inland side. The trail is paved so easy to walk or cycle along, plus there’s benches placed at intervals. A very pleasant area away from the bustle of Bilbao.

I try to walk all the way there every time I go to Getxo. The lighthouse is rather small but can be viewed from afar. The walk is easy on paths, but be prepared to walk for a while. The path there has excellent views.

Faro de la Galera is a lighthouse located in the surroundings of Getxo, a town near Bilbao, in the North part of Iberian Peninsula. You can walk in a little excursion from Getxo until the lighthouse, from where you can see very beautiful views of the cliffs and the coast. You can not visit the lighthouse, only you can see it from outside. The best, the views from here and the excursion. The lighthouse, in the average.
