- Robin W3 contributionsWonderful walksWonderful stay at The Cwms in the grounds of the woodland over Christmas. Walked for miles every day and just loved it. So very lucky with the weather, rained early mornings and at night but dry all day. Will be back.Visited December 2022Written January 9, 2023

Wonderful woodland walks to suite all abilities and a stunning meadow and stream. Simple but lovely food and selection of drinks in the court yard cafe. One of the nicest Trust cafes with friendly and helpful staff and a lovely gallery shop.Visited May 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten May 25, 2023
- Silvia SStockton-on-Tees, United Kingdom30 contributionsA lovely respiteWonderful! It’s much bigger than we anticipated. This is very suitable if you fancy a walk/stroll. What we didn’t realise was that the Ascent can be quite steep in places. Maybe if we don’t our research better!!!! The walled garden was lovely after all the green of the woodland. And I’m still in awe of all the blue hydrangeas. Also highly recommend the Bothy Tea rooms. And not forgetting the Crafters Loft. Some real handcrafted items there.Visited July 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten July 21, 2023

Then took the dogs for a lovely wonder round, the grounds were well maintained and kept to a lovely standard. Ended the walk by visiting the tea room which again was a lovely treat reasonably priced drinks and cakes. I will definitely be visiting again soon.Visited July 2023Traveled with familyWritten July 24, 2023
- whippet chariotsTamworth, United Kingdom84 contributionsBeautiful location for a walk and superb tea rooms. This was a beautiful place for a walk. We had three generations plus two dogs on leads. The gardens are extensive with many paths through the woods around the central river plain. You could walk here for a week and not follow the same path. The tea rooms were really excellent. Wide array of homemade baking. Yum! £3 parking for 3 hours was the only cost. The car park was getting towards fill by lunchtime though so recommended early.Visited August 2023Traveled with familyWritten August 21, 2023

- pacificstormWeston super Mare, United Kingdom14 contributionsNational Trust does it again. As usual, National Trust has served up a wonderful natural environment to walk and appreciate. We stopped here on our way home from a short stay just outside Narberth. We didn't know what to expect but there were few National Trust locations in south Wales so we though we'd stop by. We are so glad we did. After getting free parking as a National Trust member, by the way one of the best value subscriptions you could ever do, we expected to show our membership again to gain entry but it is free to all. If you are not NT members, your parking is also your entry fee. The grounds are fantastic. Well kept and clearly marked. They give you a map to follow which highlights plant areas, wooden statues and features, streams and bridges and also a couple of buildings showcasing craftwork I think (we didn't go into those). By taking one of the paths led us directly to Amroth and its beach. A beautiful place which we would have never seen had we not stopped for NT. We spent a good few hours in these locations which topped off a fantastic short stay in south Wales.Visited August 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten September 2, 2023

Walk through the woods to the left and you will come to the beach and a lovely pub for a stop off drink. Food looked lovely. Car park was £3 for 3 hours. Had a nice craft art shop on site and a lovely cafe. Great day out dogs welcome ours had a great time. We came here on a very hot and sunny day in August. The road leading up to the car parks is narrow with passing places - not everyone’s cup of tea but we were ok with it. We parked in the overflow car park by mistake at first. You have to carry on down the hill to find the main car park which we then did. We arrived at about 10.30am and the car park had lots of spaces. There was no-one checking NT cards because of covid I think. We went to the tea room first of all. There were quite a few outside tables and then the queue for food and drink had helpful signage to help with social distancing. We had coffees and juice for the children (aged 6 and 8). There were a few wasps around but otherwise our only complaint was the heat. It really was hot. The toilets were very cool in comparison - I almost wanted to stay in them as they were so cold.
There weren’t any leaflets and we didn’t have any internet reception on our phone so we didn’t really have a plan for where we were going. We accidentally walked out of the NT property fairly soon after we started our woodland walk and ended up in the village of Amroth which had a beach. It was so hot. At least in the woodland it had been cooler and shady! We had a quick paddle in the sea (the beach has big stones/pebbles before you reach the sand) and fish and chips then walked back up to our car. It really was too hot to explore anywhere that wasn’t shaded with trees and we had no idea what else there was to do at the NT so we just went back to the car. If we’d had internet reception we might have found some other routes to explore using google maps. As it was we were just glad of a woodland shady walk on such a hot day.

Hello Heslomonick,
Thank you for your review. We are glad to hear you enjoyed your visit to us at Colby Woodland Garden and glad to hear it enabled you to enjoy some shade on a hot summers' day. My apologies for the delay in our response, many of our staff members have been, and still are, on furlough. Our Visitor Reception and Shop are closed at the moment so there is no way for us to scan National Trust members cards currently. We apologise for the lack of information you found on site. There is a map in the car park and one in the notice board outside the toilet building; we recommend taking a photograph of these to help guide your way around the site.
Thank you for being members and supporting us. As a conservation charity we rely on the support of our members and visitors to look after this special place for ever, for everyone. We hope to see you again some time in the future.
Thank you and Best Wishes, Kate.

A lovely peaceful place that feels off the beaten path. Entrance is free but it costs to park and the machine only takes coins, so come prepared. We walked through the woods down to the beach at Amroth and back, and finished with some excellent cakes in the cafe.

Colby woodland garden is located a short distance down a very narrow and steep hill, plenty of car parking, £6:00 for the day and entry was then free (bonus)
We picked up a map that apparently had 3 different routes through the woodland, also apparently these routes would be marked, we only saw 4 blue route markers so just made up our own routes.
The woodland walks are very pretty, they are however quite hilly and steep in places so I would say not well suited for wheel chairs or pushchairs.
It was a good explore but at one point we ended up on a public footpath heading out of Colby as there was no sign telling us we were heading away.
Plenty of benches and places to have a sit, and look out for the woodland sculptures!!
The woodland is doggy friendly, as long as they are on a lead, but dogs are not allowed in the walled garden which was a shame as our doggy wanted to go in and explore/sniff, we were there for about 3 hours and enjoyed the walks in and around the woodlands.

Good car parking facilities and a lovely information board showing walking routes of differing distances and times. Sadly, once we left the car park there were no further way marking posts (other than horse/bike/foot) indicating these routes and finding a way round was left entirely to chance. Only one route had any footpath signs, and which it was I have no idea! We were incredibly disappointed in this aspect of our visit as the woods were lovely to walk round, but some signage is most definitely needed!

We stopped here for lunch, which was good. It's a family run tearoom and was up to the usual high standard of the National Trust.
We looked round the walled garden, which isn't big but packs a lot in, we especially liked the water feature and, when we were there, the gazebo was closed due to it having become home to some bees. Both of us agreed that closing something due to bees was a good thing, especially as one of the first things you see in the garden is a large wickerwork bee.
We didn't have time to look at the wildflower meadow or explore the woodland (where one can do some hunting for the remains of the area's industrial past) but it did appear to be popular with families. Based on the one we saw, it was popular with dogs too.

As NT members we usually visit houses for a bit of culture.
This woodland and mini garden visit was a great gem of a surprise
A earm dry day allowed us both to wander freely taking in the calm and relaxing from the normal hustle and bustle of daily life. A short woodland walk takes you to Amroth for a welcoming ice-cream

Well maintained gardens and paths with a range of walks. We visited on a damp day in winter and it was still a lovely area to walk around, imagine it’s even better in the summer. Good path to walk into Amroth to the sea front from here also. Plenty of parking.

How much is entry to the gardens? Also, is there blue badge parking available?
TenbyPuffin
Tenby, UK102 contributions
As of this year, the admission charge is covered by a car parking charge. National Trust members continue to be free on ‘scanning’ of the membership card. Blue badge parking is available along with a ‘drop-off’ point near on the walkway not far from the tearoom.

Hi I e just arranged a coach trip for 52 people now the coach company is saying there's no way a coach can get down those narrow lanes!! I'm very stressed as everyone is expecting the trip!can anyone advise please?
Thanks .

Those lanes are single track at some points With tight bends, I would suggest ringing Colby directly to discuss. Alternatively, are your party able to walk? If the bus company would allow, you could get dropped off in Amroth which has a lovely beach and then walk up the hill to Colby?
Hi, how is the accessibility for prams please?
Stuart Marshall

We saw plenty with prams - the main paths would be fine!
