The shoreline is dotted with resorts which you can book, it is easily accessible by road near the town of Balapitiya. The lake has 18 small islands on one there is a Buddhist temple, other inhabited by people who demonstrate how to remove bark of the tree to make cinnamon, there is a fish farm where for a small price you can get small fish to nibble away the dead skin on your feet. King Fisher and monkey can be seen all around, locals use the lagoon for shrimp farming, a boat ride around the lake is a must.

This motor boat tour is not exactly cheap but still worthwhile to take. Especially when you are somewhere near this lake; we went there by tuk-tuk from Beruwala.
This is not comparable to the river tour on the Bentota river or one of the smaller rivers. Much less animals to spot, but here you can see the bald eagles. Dont take this boat tour if you really want to ride through mangroves as they do a passage of maybe 30 meters on this lake only; for a true mangrove tour go to Aluthgama and get a tour on the small river next to Bentota river.
Anyway, this lake tour has been extremely relaxing and we enjoyed every minute.

It is a pleasure to experience the motor boat ride on Madugnga Lake. We were lucky to spot white eagle and zebra striped water monitor lizard. Must Visit.

A must do experience if you r visiting bentota and the nearby beaches. It's a boat ride through the mangroves with a stopover at a cinamon plantation. If luck favours you will see the river monitor lizard, turtles and other marine life.

It was an excellent experience for my 2 friends from India and my family. They were planning to do a boat safari at Bentota River but I recommended and brought them to do the “Madu River Safari”
Our boat provider was “Totupola Maduwa River Safari No.2” and must specially mentioned about the boat driver ‘Nishantha, he was excellent. The fear Rs.3000/= was very reasonable and the time spend was really worth for the money. The boat ride was for about harsh. They are located 50-75 M after the bridge on the western side of the main road towards Galle next to the “Bord’ eau” restaurant.
If you are keen in seeing the crocks and the birds must start early around 6-7 am, the ‘Fish foot massages’ an attraction you must not miss on the way.

Feels good to arrive at the lake and see authentic (nearly untouched) nature with quite a few wild animals! We were worried to be caught into a touristy thing but no - the guide on his little boat made it a very much enjoyed real experience. We recommend!

I had a trip to downsouth of srilanka . Then visit this fantastic place with my family and friends . It is amazing place you can hire a motor boat for a resonable rate. There are severea islands there. You can land those islands . There is a ancient temple also. And there is place where you can have fish therephy to your legs. It was a nice experience . I had a half a day trip . In the evening which I saw beautiful sunset through the lagoon . So try this experience .
