The Schalkenbosch vineyards are situated high up on the slopes of the Witzenberg mountain range overlooking the picturesque Tulbagh valley. The soils are similar to those found in the Rhone Valley in France and the vineyards enjoy a unique micro-climate. A late sunrise is due to the shadow of the mountain.

We went at the very coldest part of the year for this region for the Christmas in Winter event which is held every year in Tulbagh. We were very concerned that we would be cold at night, but what a wonderful surprise. The unit which we stayed in was equipped with a fireplace in the lounge/kitchen area and the bedrooms... More

What a lovely time visiting such a peaceful and beautiful place. Old style farm housing that let you mis farm life and the every night braai.

We had a great weekend away. Loved the setting. Good and clean accommodation. Enjoyed swimming in the pool and walks on the farm. Amazing scenery!

We spent a wonderful weekend on the farm. Hiking, swimming, frisbee on the lawns and braaing. Clean rustic accommodation. Teary goodbyes for our daughter who had made friends with Rocky (the staffie pup).

Such a great relaxes family atmosphere. Sit back relax and enjoy a few glasses of good wine and great conversation with the family who run the farm.

Such a disappointment! The farm and setting are truly lovely but the house we were given to stay in was just awful. The heavy dust, kitchen grime and leaky toilet (which left the mat sodden and smelly by morning, and of which they were aware, if the ice-cream tub under the outlet pipe is anything to go by) were completely... We were sorry that this family were unhappy with the accommodation - we have rustic farm cottages and we do not pretend otherwise. They were built many years ago but our many guests, including those from overseas, find them charming and a pleasant getaway. We have some who return year after year and specifically choose the cottage in which they... More

I booked 3 nights in one of the cottages, great atmosphere, excellent wines and extremely friendly reception from Jill, the owner. You can play with the well mannered Oscar, the ridgeback, but do not allow him in your cottage or feed him...the rules are the rules:) I would definitely recommend a stay at Schalkenbosch when you visit Tulbagh! After having excellent Edenhof wine in Tulbagh, we decided to go and have a look at where it came from, and buy a few bottles. We received a very friendly reception and Jill, the owner, went out of her way to show us the venue and taste the wines. There are a few self catering units that are on my... More
