This location boasts of being the place where many dinosaur bones had been excavated. Flaming Cliffs is an apt description for it is surrounded by orange coloured plains that spread far and wide while you admire the view on the edge of cliffs after the short hike. This is a land that inherits rich historical deposits.

Bayanzag known as ‘flaming cliffs’ due to their colours ochre and red located northwest of Dalanzadgad. I went there at around 8pm+ to watch the sunset. Pictures can’t really do justice to this amazing scenery. We actually explored area the area and it was not too difficult to hike.

We reached the cliffs late in the afternoon. It was cloudy and the cliffs somewhat muted in colour. However it when the sun peeked out that the place turned a fiery orange-red unveiling spectacular sights. We walked along the length looking down and upwards at bizarre shapes crafted by the winds over the years. This we were told, is where excavations took place to unearth dinosaur remains. We could find a bit of these creatures if we looked hard enough, our guide said. It remains a possibility that adds to the charm of this place!

I am curious over the other excellent reviews. Maybe since I am from the USA and having seen the Grand Canyon, Bryce, Zion, Cedar Breaks, others... I am ruined. This was a big....Huh? The roads are awful. I am not impressed with this scenic attraction in Mongolia. The nearby ger camp was only ok, and loaded with mosquitos. Don't bother with this one.

Wow....sunset at the cliffs! Mongolia Quest is a fantastic outfitter....after looking for fossils, they arranged for a wonderful group dinner while watching the sunset at the cliffs. The next day we visited the lovely Yol Valley and saw an Ibex on the ridge.

Had a great time walking around the Flaming Cliffs and enjoying the fantastic views. The Gobi desert is a treasure trove of interesting finds and it is impossible adequately put into words the sensation of being in Mongolia's wilderness - with the savage wind beating upon your brow and endless vistas of land, sky and clouds outstretched as far as the eye could see. Driving from Ulaanbaatar where the scenery starts out lush and green, and then gradually changing into hardier landscapes until we reached the desolate beauty of the Flaming Cliffs - it was an incredible experience.

While camping in the Three Camels Lodge Ger Camp, I visited "The Flaming Cliffs". Unfortunately, this was one of our overcast and then rainy day in the Gobi. As the old saying goes, Sunshine Makes The Day, and so our time spent here was looking at dull colored rocks and cliffs that would have been spectacular with a bright sun. Putting the disappointing lack of sunshine aside, here, I could clearly envision the excitement of 90 something years ago when dinosaur bones were discovered in the red dirt.

I did find the size of the area smaller than I envisioned but when weighed with the discovery of dinosaur bones, and eggs, and the magnitude of its importance, I was quite impressed! There are no tourist services at this location, fortunately, and very few visitors! We were alone at this entire site for five hours!

A must see along with Bryce Canyon and the Grand Canyon!
