I drove 10 of the 18 National Tourist Roads this summer, and this one is actually my favorite. It is not a road that anyone uses to go from A to B because there is a good alternative and it doesn't take you to that many places so there is a high chance you will not cross anyone when you drive here. It is a scenic road and the scenery is just fantastic, you just want to stop all the time and just enjoy it, the pictures don't really show how beautiful it is. Amazing landscapes. The weather can change very quickly and you can experience all the seasons in a single drive. It is also amazing to cycle it.

If you travel on the morning them take the road from Stryn, if it's the evening then to Stryn.
The road is peaceful because not many people wants to travel 27 km and they prefer to travel on motorways.
On this road you will have nice views aver mountains streams rivers cascades ... A must seem

One of the best old mountain roads I have ever driven.
It takes longer, but is worth the time. Drive careful, narrow road

This is a gorgeous though very very narrow road, so be prepared. It is simply amazing with its view and a must if you are passing by anyways.

Would recommend choosing this road over the new one though it will take longer.

I'm in love with this area, I want to move here and live a simple life! <3 the narrow gravel road probably keeps heavier traffic and some tourists away which makes it more intimate. But the landscape and the scenery is worth coming a long way for. We made this a day trip from Geiranger (11 pm) via Grotli and took a few hours drive including stops for cooking lunch along the way, and returned to Geiranger through the pay road tunnel. On our way back to Geiranger we stopped at Dalsnibba toadmire the stunning view and made a shorter hike around the area of Westerås farm. We returned to our camp site in Geiranger just in time for dinner around 6 pm. But the return to Strynefjell is a must!!

The road connects town mountain villages with the fjord village of Stryn. The route passes round, glaciated forms and steep, rugged topography. Skiing is possible far into the summer and the road is not opened until June. A lot of hairpin bends, the route then drops down to Geirangerfjord, a World Heritage Site, where the road follows the fjordside until reaching Geiranger. Very scenic and beauty area. Worth a coach ride.

Truly spectacular views with lots of mountains and ice. We drove frothe route from Grotli to Videsaeter. The old scenic mountain road was definitely worth taking over the new route. Recommended

During our travel to Norway, last 2 weeks, we drove the Route 258 , between Grotly & Stryne. The road is known as Nasjonale Gamle Strynefjellsvegen. this is a 27 km' of gorgeous landscape
not typical to Norway, thouh very impressive Our trip was at the end of season and the road wasn't crowded at all, so we could drive calmly and enjoy every minute. I fully recommend travellers not to miss that road.

Going in any direction, this is a road to include when visiting the northwest of Norway. They even serve a summer ski arena at the west end of the dirt trail.

We chose to drive this way since the reviews in TA were so good. We weren’t disappointed. From Stryn the road is newly asphalted as far up as the summer-ski centre. From there on it is patchy, gravel and narrow in places, but there are plenty of passing places so don’t let that put you off. The scenery is spectacular and there are many places to stop and take photos. If you want to see 10 ft snow on both sides of the road in July, then this is the place to go. As you get closer to the eastern side the landscape gets greener and the decent begins.
